Lyman or Harbor Freight Fix of Sonic Cleaners

Bought a Harbor Freight Sonic cleaner far better than a case tumbler. Then I read on here they have electronics fry after a few months of use. I was worried I'd bought a lemon. As i started to use mine it was great cleaned wife rings, cd's, carb out of lawn mower needed rebuilt works so great. Then i noticed my H.F. one is identical to Lyman and they both have a seam about 3/4" down from the inside tub area when you place your items to be cleaned. Being a retired Carpenter and have to fix everything around my h0use I had a brain storm. I thought the moisture from the hot water in the tub area was going up and in that seam and making the electronics wet and burning it out. i grabbed my silicone tube and calking gun and ran a good heavy bead around the inside of that tub area to seal out that water from getting down and onto the wiring works like a charm had my wonderful sonic cleaner for maybe 12 years or so now and works like magic at cleaning gun parts, rings, you name it. Don't buy the Lyman it's the same thing as H.F. and costs about double far better than a tumbler cleaner. And as an added tip I take my water and run it in the micro wave to get it bubbling hot then dump it into the sonic cleaner with simple Dawn sad and maybe some lemon shine at times. comes out clean and the hot water speeds up the cleaning much faster even cleans 0ut the primer pockets well. Far better way to do cases. Got 2 tumblers for sale I don't like the fire hazzard they might cause.

Some good ideas here. I’m on my 3rd HF cleaner. As far as the tumbler, I keep mine outside under shelter mostly because of noise. I use a timer when I’m running it to polish brass and unplug it when not in use.

My HF sonic cleaner gets used quite a bit...love it. Will check out the seam issue.

I put the parts in a plastic baggie with the cleaning liquid and then drop the baggie in the tub filled with tap water. Works great and simple clean up.
