Lyman Bore Scope photos.

Nice! I know for me, finding a way to hold the probe at the right spot helped immensely with getting the pictures in focus. I ended up wrapping tape around the wand in a couple spots to help it center up in the bore guide (and barrel).

Looks like the newer higher-res version definitely takes better pics than the original!
Newer high res version? How new is it and did they make any sort of model distinction? How do you know what version you get when you order one?

I got mine last year and it was a turd compared to these pictures.

Better. Sharper. Higher Resolution. The new, upgraded Lyman Borecam® Digital Borescope is a serious candidate for best gunroom tool of the year. We really liked the original Borecam and recommended it highly. But now the new version is a LOT better. Now offering 300k resolution, you can really see finer details inside your bore. Trust us — the difference is VERY Noticeable. We could see very fine detail as never before. We like the fact that the lens wand is marked like a ruler so you can see your insertion depth and the handle has an indexing mark so you can keep track of your rotation. Great product. NOTE: The 300K means the camera delivers 300,000 pixels, i.e. 0.3 megapixel. For a square this is about 550×550. For a standard aspect ratio, this is similar to 640×480 resolution.

I got mine last year and it was a turd compared to these pictures.

Mine looks okay to the naked eye, at least on the screen... but the picture saves at something like 320x240 px :(

Compared to a modern cell phone camera, 0.3 mp is still pretty lo-res... but about 2x what it was.

I have two 22 caliber barrels made by American barrel co that I scoped several times just to prove to myself how perfect they are. I have never scoped any barrel brand that didn't show some imperfections when new. These do not. Will they shoot better??
Who knows?? Time will tell. LDS

So the 22-250 was not punishing enough I thought I would give the .308 a go at carbon ring removal.

1st attempt Kroil soaking in bore for 1 hour followed by patch wrapped bronze brush and 60 strokes.
2nd attempt JB on a patch over a jag, 30 strokes each, 3 separate patches.
3rd attempt JB on patch wrapped around bronze brush, 30 strokes each, 3 separate patches.
4th attempt wurth engine de-greaser soaking for 30 minuets, followed by patch over bronze brush soaked in Kroil.

The photos are not in order, crappy numbering system in the lyman software, makes no difference.

Enjoy

My last name may end in ski.
I have no bore scope of my own and have never looked thru one.
Is this fire cracking ?

Yeah... even with the less than optimal resolution of the original version, I learned a lot about what did work and what didn't as far as cleaning. Just because the patches come out clean doesn't mean as much as people think (my past self included).

Not much you can do about the fire cracking... and to a degree, the crud keeps the cracks kinda chinked up so it's not always completely beneficial to scrub it all the way out.

But if you are inclined to try... Ed's Red (available from Brownell's if you don't feel like mixing your own) and some elbow grease with a bronze brush seemed about the most effective, for me. I'd already been working it over with JB & VFG pellets and nylon brushes and Boretech C4... and about every other 'magic' carbon cutter that had been suggested.

I have bronze brushed and JB'd this barrel to the point i fee I may be doing damage. when I get a chance, Im going to mic. a fired round and machine an aluminum cutter of sorts, maybe that will remove the carbon.

To me, some fire cracking is normal so I am not sweating it.

Your lyman borescope takes nicer pics than mine.

Better than mine too. I can see things clearly enough, but the photos never turn out that nice.

I heard they were going to start putting nicer cameras and provide a higher resolution screen. Looks like he got the upgraded Lyman ;)

What is the part number on your Lyman borecam???
I have no idea how to tell if borecam for sale have the upgraded resoultion.

Those pics are impressive. I want to get the upgraded borecam and give away my old one but don't know how to tell the difference...

i called them right after the Shot Show '18 annoucement because I wanted to see if there was a model number difference for the upgraded video. They said the model number was going to be the same and the upgrade would be included as a running production change. I then decided to wait awhile before ordering one to make sure to get the upgrade. Seems like by now, all the old stock would have been exhausted. I may order one after the first of the year.

The "improved" model BoreCam can be distinguished by a fold-out stand to sit it upright on the bench whereas the original has a moulded-in stand. On the box of the new model, it clearly states "Improved screen resolution..".

My new one is somewhere in the post from the US so I'm looking forward to having a play. I've been borrowing a Hawkeye as well as using my gunsmith's original version Borecam. Will be good to have one permanently at hand in the den.

As I've stated in other threads... Chronographs and Borescopes should come with psychological disclaimers. remember what our mothers said when we were young, " if you tinker with it too much, you'll go blind."

The simplest way i have found to remove Copper/Carbon ring as in your pictures;is use Oversize brass brush 30-40 strokes and it gone.I use Exterminator and CR-10,I bought $25 worth of Stiff Brissel Brushes, they only got 40-50 persent of it out :mad:w/ hundreds of strokes. Was running out of elbow grease:p.The fire cracking looks a little heavy,You want to make sure your Bore is Dry before shooting, have seen guys run wet/ damp patches of oil/bore conditioner after cleaning, and Not run a dry patch before shooting. This will cause more cracking. One thing you can do after removeing Carbon/Copper Ring to improve accuracy; is use JB Bore BRIGHT or Witches Brew or any Real Fine compound on a patch, give 40-100 strokes to Throat Area then clean.I have found this has helped on multiple barrels in various calibers.Hope this helps.I have a New 6 mm creedmoor barrel w/ 313 rounds on it so far,w ZERO signs of Wear,Pictures on my LYMAN look almost the Same as before Fireing.
