Lyman 1200 DPS *3* ?!?

Hello,

I've been seeing some interesting reports on other boards from shooters w/ the third generation Lyman powder dispensers... they are quoting cycle times of around five seconds... thats right *five* seconds. Holy dog crap, bat boy!

For some reason I have visions of one of these puppies sitting next to a Dillon 550 outfitted with an AT500 powder funnel die just a going to town :thumb:

Anybody here have any experience w/ this latest version? Is it still a PITA to clean the powder out of like the one reviewed earlier?

TIA,

Monte

Hi Monte,
The DPS 1200-3 is an improvment from the last version, but it still is not fun to clean the powder box. It is faster than the last version, but if you are using certain powders like varget, you usually need to use a "plug" in the drop tube. The plug slows the flow of powder down enough to get an accurate powder throw. Even with the plug, the new DPS 1200 is fast. I can throw 30 grains of varget in about 10 seconds.
Good Shooting,
Jack

I've used and am using the DPS 1200. I installed the update and with Varget and the baffel put in the tube,it still has an accurate load in the pan waiting for......me. I reload on a T7 turret and I use one station for a Lee universal powder die, with a redding funnel....,It fits Lee's die perfectly.) So I don't have to mess around with a seperate hand held funnel, and don't have to use a loading block...Simple, Accurate, Fast as I can load properly. I'd say the New version is just as good and if it's faster....it will be waiting on ....ME.....longer...lol

Hi Mike,
The plug/baffle for the powder drop tube comes with the upgrade kit that converts the DPS 2 to DPS 3. I assume that it also comes with the new DPS 3. It is used to slow the rate of flow of certain powders.

Hi Mike,
I think you will like the 1200 DPS-3, it is a labor saving item for reloaders. I have found that these machines need to be kept clean; don't let powder kernels spill under that weighing platform. Also, I use a antistatic dryer sheet on the outside of the machine to keep the static down. If the DPS gets a static buildup it will drift all over the place.
Have fun with your new toy.
