Lubricating Match 22 LR

I have some Lapua Midas L. Because of it being older, the factory lubrication has dried and turned gray. I would like to wipe it off and re-lubricate the bullet.
What lubrication would be appropriate?

There are many, many lubes in use. Since the lube is an important factor in accuracy, most manufacturers are reluctant to disclose exactly what they use. Sophia mentioned some of the more common ingredients, but the possibilities are nearly infinite. I've run across some that were pretty clearly lubed with a lithium or calcium based soap. I've also seen references to the use of synthetic deep draw waxes. The very black bullets we sometimes run across almost certainly include graphite in the lube.

Cast bullet shooters devote a lot of attention to lubes. I doubt that the makers of rimfire bullets are any less concerned.

This is the exact same post that was made Leftoverdj on RFC on August 29, 2007. See post #3 22 lr lubricant - RimfireCentral.com Forums

What gave it away? The second response above mentions "Sophia" -- now a moderator at RFC. She was not referred to in the only previous post by the OP.

Perhaps geralton and Leftoverdj are one and the same. If so, some editing of the post here was in order.

Might want to try using a q-tip to swab a small amount of liquid Alox based lube on the bullets and allow to dry completely. Oils of any kind are likely to migrate into the case and cause ignition problems.

the old automotive oil additive sold under various names (STP) leaves a coating that is very similar to the lube that is being used on current Lapua products (SK, CenterX, etc). I have used this on old bulk dry lubed ammo and improved the performance. Make a dipping rack out of ammo boxes. Dip only the bullets and hang to drain. I only do as much as I'm going to shoot on my next trip to the range.

Ive had good luck with bullet swage lube which is lanonlin and beeswax on some old 10x I have. All I did was wipe off as much of the old dried lube I could with a microfiber cloth (ie no lint) and dip the bullet only in the warmed lube. Shot really well in smallbore prone matches, Now as well as new 10x? IDK. I can tell you that I still havent passed the scores up that I shot with it.

Try lanolin case lube, Hornady one shot, or ballistol. Those would be the easiest to apply and some you may already have on hand.

I notice the first 10 shots of CCI SV after shooting some good lubed ammo shoots really well. So I'm going to be testing the above 3 to see if I can get CCI SV to shoot better than with no lube.

Think I would try Hornady Unique case lube (has lanolin in it) or possible Lee case lube (consistency kind of like whipped cream). Would try the Unique first

When I get older match ammo, especially Eley, I use a cleaning wipe saturated with Hoppe's, and just 'wipe' the bullet nose. Let it sit overnight, and it will soften the old dried lube. You're not wiping the old lube 'off' per se, just giving it a coating of Hoppe's.

depending on how long ago toilet rings were bees wax, don't know if they still are
Probably it’s been a long time since toilet wax rings were beeswax

Eley and Burts Bees are using up all the beeswax and bee populations are going in the opposite direction of Bald Eagle populations.

IF you need to lubricate, try one drop of a light gun oil on the nose of the top round in the magazine.

But this probably isn't necessary. People who shoot match 22's sometimes do this - it's thought to help chambering.
