Lubricating a Nexus

Just received a new SAC Nexus press. I was surprised that it arrived bone dry with no lubricant on it whatsoever.

Was curious what other Nexus owners are using, especially for the linkages on the side? Would seem like grease would be the preference there - if so what type?

Thanks

Sounds like something may have been missed. I would give them a ring and see what they say, but this was the FAQ in the instructions.

Thanks for the info but I received the same thing from SAC. considering the price of the press, I would expect more detail as to the use of an oil or a grease and in which locations. Very disappointed with SAC right now.

Hmm. That seems a little out of character for SAC. Sorry to hear that, but I suspect someone was just a little off that day.

I'll put it this way. Almost any lubricant in the joints will be better than nothing or letting them run dry.

If you have any sort of grease or motor oil in the garage, it will work. Get some fluid in the joints, then wipe away the excess to avoid a mess.

I would never run a press dry regardless of the cost of the press.

I ended up using Mobil Vactra oil #2 on the two rams and rotating points. Used some of the Brian Enos "Slide Glide" grease on the sliding arms on each side of the press. Did not have any chatter and it was smooth. Only notable sound was the sliding arms on each side of the press as they slid along the anchor point.
