RCBS 1010 Scale

Just curious if it is me or a problem with my new RCBS 1010 scale, but I seem to have trouble getting consistent reads on my test weights.

I have the scale setup on a granite block which is perfectly level in each direction. I zero the scale, then remove the pan, set the scale to 20gn, place the 20gn weight in the pan, replace the pan back on the pan holder. 1 time out of every 3 will it line up right.

I was told that it was sensitive to pan location and I have tried to be careful each time to be consistent, but is it truly that sensitive to location or is their a problem with the scale?

I did try cleaning the points of contact as indicated in the instructions with alcohol with no improvemet seen.

1 physical characteristic I am not sure of with the scale is how the scale arm sits in the v-blocks (see attached photo). Seems to be in there somewhat at an angle. Problem?????

Also, the pan came out of the box with a bunch of scrapes on the bottom. Would that impact the accuracy?

Stiction can be a problem in scales. Lee suggests this test of a scale. With it set at zero and stationary, carefully drop a piece of regular printer paper 5/16" X 5/16" on the pan. The scale should increase by about 0.1 grains. Keep adding additional pieces of paper the same size until it moves. The point when it moves is the stiction value.

I think my Redding scale has some issue with this too. I try to ensure the pan is swinging when making careful measurements. Some movement reduces stiction.

I have a lot of time in, working on my 10-10 and that of a friend. I will PM you with my number. It is a lot easier to discuss things on the phone. I should add that it works much better now.

I would say if it sits on an angle to call ohaus who makes them for rcbs.I think they are in new jersey.I have a 505 and it is dead on.I check my dillon digital against it as a check. Every scale has a stiction point but I dont think it will interfere with weighing charge weights for a rifle. If you were weighing bullseye for a pistol then I might get worried.
