lube

Hi.
I have Nitride S type neck dyes with the bushing. I have read you don't have to lube them, but some say to lube.
My question is -
When I wipe the powder from the neck with a cleaner like nitro solvent it leaves a film. Would that act as a light lube?

One of the problems with using lube on a neck sizing operation is that there will be a consistency issue not to mention it that it will screw up the process. This procedure is critical for accuracy so leave everything clean and dry.

Yes that is the advice of Redding and is correct if taken literally -- if you are going to use lube then use a real lube. I load all of my ammunition the same whether it is for competition or a sporter. When my brass is sized it is very very clean and the way the One Shot lube is applied before the sizing operation there is some that is applied to the neck area both inside and out. It is allowed to dry completely and then run through the full length sizing operation, bushing type dies).

The gentlemen I believe was using a neck sizing die only and while I don’t use them I know people that do --- one of the guys I shoot with uses the coated bushings, don’t know who makes them) and no lube because he claims more consistent sizing results, maybe someone who has tested this in practice will post). I on the other hand would not even consider using the neck sizing operation over the full length sizing but that is just me.

Not to belabor the point but if you do add lube make sure it is UNIFORM and applied the same way every time or the results will not be consistent --- that is bad JU JU for accuracy. This means clean and then add a lube but then I have been accused of being too well you know!! Hey if it works for you then do it – may not make a whole lot of difference in a factory chamber anyway.
