What do you use after cleaning firing pin and spring for lubrication?

The only thing about blasting with an air hose is the air tanks retain moisture so I would recommend just lightly wiping off so that some of the grease is retained. OR using a ceramic coating (like you spray on car paint to protect) as that stuff is slick!!

I use Hornady One Shot or graphite. Sometimes I just clean it with something like acetone and reassemble. Does depend on how long it will be stored. When in wet climates and stored for a while I will use a preservative, knowing that I will clean it before firing.

On my bolt guns. . . nothing!

I don't want dust, burnt powder or any other gunk to stick to any part of that assembly. With ~15,000 firings + dry firings on my .308, it's been working just fine this way. Though just a little gun grease on the contact points of the cocking piece.

My thinkin on this subject is that we should all just get good at the basic field strip and cleaning of our bolts, and simply do it often. That way you can use whatever substance you want -- or nothing at all, and never have a problem. jd

Exactly. Stripping my bolt is done every time I clean the barrel. Takes an extra minute. If I've blanked a primer I'll blast down inside the bolt with brake clean.

I use STP EP moly from autozone for bolt lube. Its like $8 for a 1lb tub.

No Rem Oil or WD40 for me. Or anything that will dry/polymerize in time.

After cleaning, store muzzle down, so fluids dont run into bolt.

Spray WD40 into firing pin hole, before & after shooting.

Naptha aka lighter fluid cleans guns very well, leaves no residue either. I keep a Tupperware bowl full on my bench with a lid. Disassemble a 1911 and toss it in there. Scrub each component as it comes out of the bowl, same with bolt gun bolts.

Disassemble ; clean all parts with lighter fluid . Have tiny brush for cleaning the F/P hole and then apply , sparingly , white Lithium to front and back ends of spring , and contact points of F/P . Very small amount of my "mixture" of white Lithium & ATF on Cam areas and use a Q-tip to remove any excess .

Lighter Fluid or lately I’ve changed to Kroil with Silicone in it… Silikroil… I spray and clean with it and it leaves a very dry feeling film of silicone. Mr Jarrett at Jarrett Rifles said to use lighter fluid and his rifles have been through hot, cold, dusty etc all over the world.
