LT-32 WHO USES IT IN 6PPC?

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
Just wondered if anyone else has tried LT-32 in the 6ppc with 68 grain flat base match bullets. What charge weight works for you and what twist are you using. Mine is a bartlein 13.5 twist/22 inches long light varmint..

Competitive shooters that I have talked to have had success from 27.5 to 29.5. If you go above 29 you need very good die/chamber fit. Even with that it will probably be hard on brass.

Should have added that I do use it - just not with 68's. I use w/62's in a longer barrel. Good stuff. In my guns, I did notice that the velocities I was getting on my PPC, as well as .223's were well below published data from Accurate. I was able to get the velocities - just took more powder in MY rifles. Mine was from the first lot. I understand there is a variation in the second and subsequent lots from what I have read but I have not yet tried subsequent lots that I have purchased after testing this stuff. Burns real sooty until you get up to where you should be in pressure to make it perform. That has been my experience anyway.

Bart Sauter, Col. Billy Stevens, Dusty Stevens, just to name a few. Billy used it to beat Tony Boyer at the East West in St. Louis last month along with Bart's new 68gr bullets. 27 to 29.5 gr

Thanks for the replys and advice.I am running it too low in charge weight.. I am only at 27 grains and I will load more to test for pressure and accuracy.

So I ordered some of Sauters 68 grain Watson bullets per Bart’s recommendation to learn how to shoot. I am shooting through a factory Sako AII 6PPC with a bull barrel with a .262” neck. Would it be safe to use the mentioned 27 to 29 grain load in my factory action? I am assuming you all probably are well into your custom actions, but would like some input before I load the bullets.

Also, when loading on the bench, do You weigh each load or are you just using the scale on the powder measure? Assuming you know what weight is what number on the powder measure scale. I have the Harrell’s culver powder measure and also the deluxe press for FL sizing cases and seating the bullets.

Thank you.

Here in South Florida, i couldn't get it to work well with 68 Bart's Ultras or Berger Columns in my Nesika J 6PPC. N133 is doing far better. humidity may be the reason

29 grains is getting pretty stout for a factory gun.

Since Sako has their 461 PPCs on their short action, which is lighter and more slender than a Remington 700 short action, I would be quite careful with those loads. The two lug bolt is well made but beefy it is not. Currently I’m doing 26-27.5gr of LT-32 in mine.
