LT-32 in a 300 Blackout?

I have a friend that wants me to load 300 ACC BO for him, looking at powders, the closest thing I have to CFE Black is LT-32. Has anybody tried this combination and does it work? 150 -155 gr bullet.

I am not familiar with using LT-32 in 300BO. However, there are several popular powders used in 300BO that a fairly common. Depending on type of rifle and also desired velocity, certain powders are better suited for the objectives. Just a couple of questions to better understand what your are reloading and refine answers from other forum member.

1) Are you wanting to load the 150gr Bullet as either supersonic or subsonic ammo?
2) Ammo to be used in AR15 or Bolt Rifle?
3) What is barrel length of rifle?

Bolt or gas gun? Would probably work in an AR but on the slow side. Bolt dosn't matter.
For supers, 1680 / Blackout is about the slowest powder for max velocity. Under 150 gr. 296 / H110.

LT-30 would be a tiny bit better than LT-32. But both would suck for your application.

LT-30 at 100% case fill with a 150gr Barnes TAC-X would make around 1628 fps out of a 16" barrel, with a chamber pressure around 27K psi. SAAMI spec on the .300BO is 55K - so you'd be making use of less than half of that.

That contrasts with something like W296/H110 which will give you north of 2000 fps with that bullet, and a chamber pressure near its spec.

Thanks all for the replies.
AR platform, 16 inch barrel, Twist unknown at this time.
Not looking for a subsonic load.
Looks like I'll be purchasing some powder.

If your friend is using AR15 and wants this to be supersonic loads then there are several powders. CFEBLK is not my first choice for supersonic loads. If it is short barrel then that would further refine powder choice.

If you friend wants it to be subsonic load through AR15 then it most likely will not be adequate to operate the gas system.

I was just setting up the pass for Dellet to dunk. I thought there might be chance that you would be going shopping.

Edit: ^^^ looks like our texts crossed at same time. Thanks for additional information.

This is going to cost me money in the long run. I currently don't own a 300 BO, but the more I study on it, I see an upper in my future. And of course, everything that goes with it....

If you enjoy working up loads, it can get very expensive, but enjoyable.

For 150 grain supers, Shooters World Blackout or 1680. The Shooters World seems to be like a hot lot of 1680. You can get just a bit more powder in the same area, and it’s a bit faster. I’d buy whichever is available and cheaper to the door.

Shooters World Socom is right there with these two for performance.
N120, works well, is probably the cleanest of the bunch, but the slowest.

There are plenty of faster powders, slow pistol, that will work that will get you higher velocity, 296, Lilgun, 4227, Accurate 11fs. But I’ve never been able to get the consistent sub MOA accuracy that the fast fire powders deliver across radical temperature changes. My winter to summer temp swings can be over 100*.

The slower rifle powders like CFE and Lt 30, 4198 can be very accurate, but lose about 10% velocity. Depending on the bullet choice if hunting, that can mean the difference in effective range of well over 100 yards. Say the difference between 1900 and 2200 at the muzzle in a 16” barrel.

Be careful of the 150-55 grain bullets, as many will jam at magazine length. Even some of the 150 FMJ’s
16” barrel with carbine gas and buffer, unless a custom barrel with an “undersize” gas port, an adjustable gas block can be a very soft shooting rifle.
Off the shelf barrels will be ported to cycle subs, and crap off the shelf ammo. Not uncommon to see ports drilled to .125”. You just don’t need that much gas, for just supers you can get buy with .080” or less. My 16” is ported at .097”. Still shoot 175 grain subs without a suppressor and dial it way back with supers with an adjustable block. Don’t believe people that say you can’t over gas a Blackout. If it will cycle subs, it’s over gassed for supers by default. Yes, you can hyper cycle to a point where the bolt moves so fast the magazine can’t feed fast enough.

If you can get your hands on the Speer 150 gold dot, it’s probably my favorite. There are two versions, one specifically for 300 BLK, and one for 308.

Thank you very much.

If you want a little more velocity, consider the 7.62x40WT or 300 HAM'R. Why trim off powder capacity from the case if you're not chasing subsonic?
just sayin...

Hoot

I also shoot/load for the 300HAM'R, which is basically a 300BO with an additional 1/4" longer case to hold more powder. For any given bullet weight, the 300HAM'R runs +300fps faster than the 300BO. The 300HAM'R utilizes 95gr - 150gr bullets (supersonic). The 150gr bullets that work/feed in AR15 (300HAM'R):

150gr Speers Gold Dot (300BO version)
150gr Speers Boattail Soft Point
150gr Hornady SST (#30303)
150gr Speers HAM'R Bonded (buy directly from Wilson Combat)
150gr Federal Fusion

The 300BO versions of bullets are designed for lower velocity of 300BO as compared to .308 Win. The main difference is the copper jacket is thinner on 300BO bullet version so that it is able to expand easier at lower velocities.

I used H110, but I was looking primarily at throwing lead at targets rather than chasing any sort of end goal. 16 - 18 gns as I recall. I loaded someone's 125 JHPs (Speer TNT's? Don't remember now.)

I have tried 296, 4227 and LilGun. LilGun gave the best velocity but I stuck with 296 because it has the best accuracy. Mostly shooting Speer 130s but some 125s and 150s as well.
