LT-32 and 6ppc

True that Mr. Dusty ! It is funny you say that because I screwed a fresh barrel on a new to me action earlier this week and after verifying the shoulder bump seated a bullet in a dummy round at random starting at what I thought would be a little long. When I pulled it I was happy it pulled with the bullet intact with the case and I noticed the bullet had pretty square marks from the lands. I loaded up 5 rounds and used two to get the scope pretty close on my practice target. The next 3 shots were a .15" group. I played with a few more loads but none shot any better than that one.

Very nice. Its a good bet itll shoot good and its longer than touch which most start with. A vld bullet may like the jump though so keep that in mind

I just emptied my second 8 pound LT-32. I am getting a new barrel because it will not even get close to a jam. 3,400 through it. One thing that I noticed is that at the Super Shoot, of the top 20 contenders, only one used LT-32. All of the rest used N-133. So, I am getting a 1 pound of N-133. As I do not compete formally I am now leary to buy an 8 pound of either. I will also use which ever powder in my .222x35*. It is also getting harder to find Lt-32. Bruno's only stocks LT-30 and Sportsman's Warehouse also does not stock it anymore. I am in a quandary as to what to buy. Don't want to pay haz-mad.

You are better off buying as much of each powder you can afford to buy.
One will shoot when the other one will not . I have found on certain days one will out shoot the other and on other days the opposite.

Try Powder Valley. I bought mine there, last week.

Sometimes I think if I’m shooting good on Saturday with LT I ought to just plan to swap to 133 the next day and vice versa
Hard to keep it together for two days

This is my third year of benchrest. I shoot both 133 and LT32. I finished 7th at SS. I shot Barts 68 BT and 28.3 of LT32 lot 1 all week. Went to IBS nats and that WOULD not shoot switched to 29.2-29.8 133 from 2013 finished top 20 in 4 catagories. I think you need both powders at least in my experience.

I wouldnt start at touch either, id start at jam then go back. Most ppc will shoot better between touch and jam. Id start at the square rifling mark with 28.5 and then spend the rest of your time trying to get one better (most likely wont)
wouldn't it be great if more carts were as predictable, if not well behaved? any similar well known starting points for 6BR? thx

Most shooters shoot both. Its all according to the day. Even though they wrote down 133 they used both
Dusty, is this due to relative humidity? In Western Colorado our summers are mostly dry. Many days in the valley in the 90’s with a few 100+ degrees Fahrenheit. Our RH is usually around 8-15% until the SW Monsoon shows up, then, it gets mighty swampy until the SW flow shifts.
During these periods of monsoonal weather, LT-32 is not as easy to tune as when it is dry. Many of the competitors who shoot at the Lands End Benchrest Club are using LT-31 (50/50), however I have noticed a few of them switching to 133 from time to time. 31 is there “go-to” powder however, 133 appears to be “where its at” when 31 will not work?

You have to be careful. Powder burn rate changes slightly, lot to lot. Recently, I bought a new keg of Varget. I was inclined to just load up my “old good load” but I decided to BE CAREFUL and made some new test loads. I found that my old load was toooooo hot with the new Varget. I blew a couple primers, testing. In one of my guns, the primer blew with .3 grains under my old load!

This seems like a good question to me. If 28.5 of LT is chocolate icecream what would be the load for VV133?
Thanks

holy moly my eyes are getting bad. i first read that as 3 grains... had to refocus several times. i have trouble commiting to buying kegs... so no wonder i am tweaking so often.

I did the same thing for a long time, then the light went on! I poured all of my Varget in a plastic tub and mixed it reeeeaaaaal good. Put a label on all the refilled cans saying “blended” with the date. Anymore, I buy 8 pounders. It’s cheaper in the long term.;)

Thanks Ccrider! I have the same lot!
