Lr ammo sorting ?

I am a terrible shot, but there is something to say about the relative consistency. Again, bottom where sighters and top are 10 shot groups in the wind.

I have seen 22LR ammo sorted by rim thickness, weight and overall length. Some of the rim thickness sorting seemed to work out slightly better than unsorted but only some. Some of the weight sorted ammo seemed to be a tiny bit better than the unsorted but less than the rim sorted. The overall length sorted ammo was very much like the unsorted ammo. When there was an advantage to sorting ammo the best sorting method seems to be sorting by rim thickness.
After all this I believe that finding the ammo that shoots best in your gun is still better than sorting ammo. Just because it says "Target" or "Match" ammo on the box does not mean it will shoot small groups in your gun. Try as many different brands and types for each of your guns and use the ammo that is best in each gun for that gun.

i agree, take for instance, we know that the smaller the deviation ammo produces in your rifle, the better chances your results will be. At the same time, we know that your ammo does not have to be a "screamer" to produce great results on a target, a lot of it is the nut behind the buttplate. If you can do well at reading conditions, for instance, on a IR50 target, if your ammo will stay within the "9" ring, you should clean with a good X count..

Bob, I meant no disrespect. It just looks like a bunch of vertical there that could be corrected. Perhaps with a tuner or with some of the issues I mentioned.
Sorting ammo isn't the answer. IMO a complete waste of time with "quality" ammo.
I do wish you the best with it though.

It could be simply the position of the forearm on the rest, maybe the rear bag.. there are so many unknowns.. till you trace them down one at a time.. but yes, with "quality" rimfire ammo, i feel the same.. it is a waste of time..

I wanted to find what relatively shot the best in my rifle and then start playing with my Tuner, which I do have on the rifle.

I've sorted my 22 rimfire ammo eight ways from Sunday with no discernible correlation with precision. What seems to work better than any other method is to check the sale price of ammo and buy the most expensive kind you can find.
