LP, Right Bolt Action?

I am contemplating building an open F Class rifle but the action available is right bolt (good) and left port (bad?). I have been shooting with a sling for many years where the port in on the right. So how easy is to convert one habit to left port, will this slow me down? I plan to have a joystick front rest if that info is relevant.

The custom builder wont make a right right receiver? Which one are you looking at?

Shouldn't slow you down at all. Some people consider that arrangement, or a dual port, to be an advantage.

I want to build this gun quickly and get this particular action now otherwise it may take several months to get another with RP.

I shoot a RB, LP, RE in F/TR. I like it. Doesn't slow me down a bit. You have to wait for the target to come back up, 5 seconds would be considered really fast target pulling. I would have no qualms with RB LP.

Steve, you mentioned you are looking at a joystick rest. The only thing I can think of that *might* be a problem would be the placement of your ammo to be convenient to loading a LP, which having the joystick there as well (since you'll be manipulating it with your left hand).

I dunno, I haven't done it, but I've thought about it a bit. I don't think it will slow you down in terms of shooting, but you might have to make setup compromises that you won't like. I'll be curious to hear from guys using a joystick rest and a LP action to see what they do...

I just put together a new open rifle with RB LP. I like it better than RP, because now my shoulder can stay in position. I use a Farley rest with no problem loading a round, then moving back to the joystick. The only real problem that I had last week in Phoenix, was with the shooting lines. The course sand blowing around, jammed up my rest movements during my second string on the second day of individual competition.

steve , i have shot a barnard model p in right bolt / left port for the last 7 years , with no problem , the first thing you will find is that your left arm (hand) which you used to support the rifle during sling shooting is now free to adjust the rest and load the ammo while the rifle is in contact with your right shoulder you can operate the bolt with little movement of the rifle and stay in a good position . it will take a little time and practice , i would recomend to get a bolt with an ejector as this stops you from having to remove the fire case from the port , so you only have to load . you can pick up your brass when finished shooting

After going to a rb lp receiver I have built 3. My latest being a rb lp re Borden. I will never go back to a rb rp. It didn't slow me up, in fact it IS faster for me. This is also using a SEB rest.

Steve,,,you should consider a Kelbly action,,,F-class,,,Roger

+1

I am right handed and use a Panda F Class in LBLP configuration and am going to order another. I realize it is a little different configuration than what you are looking at but you may want to consider it. It is very natural and my shooting side (right) stays in a consistent position and my left hand works the bolt, loads and unloads (no ejector) as well as manipulates the joystick. I can't believe more right handed shooters don't setup this way.

It might take a month or two to get a Panda F Class made in the configuration you want, but be patient...they are well worth it. 8)

I am left-handed, shoot FO and use left bolt right port Panda's for my shooting. Use SEB Neo rest. No problems except the nut behind the butt plate.
