Right bolt, right load for F-Class?

I am thinking of converting my old br rifle into an F-class rig. It is a rem clone. What are most guys shooting? Will I hate the right port? Should I just sell it and get a left port or dual port?
Thanks,
Alex

A dual port IS nice, but for F-class it's not a hindrance since you're not hurrying your shots downrange.

I shoot F-Open and can easily feed my right port without breaking position.

Killshot, Some of the folks are sure shooting quickly. I get all of my shots for record down range in about 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 minutes. I had a good coach as well and he just came back from the Canadian Nationals were he took the over all agg. The best advice he gave me was "Keep the target in the pits" I have always heeded that advice and it serves me well in shooting F-Class.

So with the quick shooting thing out of the way, I have both Right Port and Left port right eject actions. One is my 1,000 yard rifle the other is for Mid Range. I don't really see much of a difference in loading or shooting either action as to speed of shooting, and as I said I shoot very quickly.

While that is true (and their barrels hate them for it) the target still has to go down, be marked and put back up - I've never seen one be faster than I can pull my empty and drop a fresh one in the port.

That's with no ejector. ;)

I have the same setup and, even with a crazy pit monkey pulling targets, I can still keep up. ;) [br]
Sometimes, it really pays to know when not to shoot.

I run a dual port Savage last year. It didn't really seem necessary. My F-TR rig now is a RBRP, no problems what so ever. I believe it is just a matter of your preference.

I would never consider the dual porting for firing from the shoulder.

1- It reduces cross section of the receiver where it is important.
2- It is in direction of the shooter's face in the always possible case of a blowback...

I use a LBLP (I'm left handed). I believe that it allows you to stay in position better than having to move both hands to load. The cycle rate is not a problem.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like its up to personal taste. I know on the bench dual port is the only way to go if you shoot fast. I see the benifit of a left port, you can see what your doing. I may go dual port and take the ejector out and run it like a left port. Then I will have a dual port for the next time i change my mind, haha. Does it really break your position down loading with your left hand?

I shoot RBRP. My spotting scope is on the left side where the offside port would be.
I can load and plot between shots. I do keep the target in the pits.

It does. But if you're set up in your rest correctly, it shouldn't be a big negative.
I'll sometimes break position to refocus the Objective or change the front bag tension without doing any harm.

Killshot, I guess I don't see your point or what you said. Yes all F-Class shooters are dependant on there pullers ( I thought that would be obvious to any one shooting F-Class, hard to shoot a target thats not there) but you can sure be ready when it does show up.

Just as is the statement "Sometimes, it really pays to know when not to shoot." Well yea!!!!

As to barrels hating them for it. Barrel life is a fact of life for anyone who shots any rifle , pistol or any firearm. They are an expendable just like Bullets and Powder. The way I look at it is considering how much money I spend on Fuel, Lodging, Re-Loading Components ( Which are much more expensive than any barrel) entrance fee's and all of the things it cost to shoot these matches and I try and shot at least three a month. Barrels are the least of my worries. They will last as long as they last, and then I'll screw another one on there and start over.

Trying to save one by shooting slower in an F-Class match and still be competitive and harbor under the illusion that by shooting slower you are adding more than a very few ( If Any) rounds of barrel life has got to be a joke.

I have both. Each has it's own merits, but for F/TR, I like the RBRP better. If you are a bag squeezer, you know what I mean.
