Low recoil 45-70 loads?

Try Unique with some cast bullets. I use it in my Rolling blocks for BP pressure loads. Very low recoil

Recoil is zero. I've shot 200 in a day before at steel. Rounds end up like .25 a piece if you get 10 reloads on brass, which is nothing on these.

I have not really loaded for really light loads but to duplicate what a black powder load will do with 405 gr Accurate 5744 sure is accurate. It is not position sensitive either.

I have a mild whitetail load that I run out of my Guide gun & Encore (shoots decent in both).

300 gr Hornady HP
25.7 grains of 2400
Starline brass
Rem 9.5 primers

You can also do the 60 % H-4895 rule

That would start you at around 38 gr H-4895 with 300 gr bullet.

Any of the loads from the Lyman manual for the Springfield should be fine for a low recoil load.

Many of the reloading manuals list trapdoor or cowboy loads for the .45/70, they're a good a place as any to start (your rifle will tell you what it likes). Some folks are fans of 5744 for reduced loads or "replica" bp loads.

Not in a 45-70. I have read that they used to be a thing in BPCR shooting, then I believe somewhere back in time the rules changed to holy black only and the duplexing kind of went away.

The idea of duplex smokeless/black loads was to reduce fouling from the black.
