Anyone have any low recoil loads they would like to share ? Just trying to makes something up for the wife so she can shoot the the weatherby vanguard she inherited. Really just 100yd plinking
Thanks

95 gr ttsx. Work up a load with a typical fast 270 powder. Maybe 4350, ramshot hunter or big game. Re15 etc. use a min load
If just plinking maybe the TNT 90 gr. Cheaper

Hodgdon lists reduced recoil loads using the 110 ttsx. And 120 sst. Basically a case full of the slowest powders so it probably doesnt burn completely and may be dirty in the barrel but its low velocity

Loads can be reduced by 60% with h4895 IIRC. The hodgdon website is where to get the data

Lightest 270 bullet i know of. Pricey but takes less pressure to move em thru the bore and excellent hunting bullets

A H4895 reduced load with a light bullet will work great. I have also experimented with reduced loads (albeit more like 75% charge instead of the 60% starting charge of H4895) using other single base extruded powders of a similar burn rate (IE IMR 4895 and N135) and they also shoot great, if you don't happen to have H4895 around.

Lighter bullet loads even when full charge often tend to be lower recoil too.

The TNT is a great bullet, as is a the SST in lighter weights, for this.

I have a buddy that bought a Savage Axis in .270 Win. Watching him shoot it, I can see that the light weight isn't helping, and even off the bench, the recoil and muzzle blast (which is considerable) are opening up the groups. He's only hunting with it, and typically shooting factory ammo. Don't underestimate the effect of that muzzle blast on someone's perception of recoil.

I collected up a box or two worth of brass from his rifle, and reloaded it with the Hornady 120 grain SST on top of 40.0 grains of IMR4895. Did this when H4895 wasn't available, and I'd go with that first if you have it. I've yet to chronograph this load, but it groups about MOA at 100 yards. Should be somewhere about 2500 fps, and there is a noticeable difference in both recoil and muzzle blast. Before Hodgdon posted their reduced load guidance, all the 4895s were considered viable for light loads. Now it's all geared towards H4895. There is also a lot of data posted on Hodgdon's reloading data site for reduced loads in the .270 with a lot of other powders. I'd like to try the 120 SST with IMR4350 too, it's also posted on that page.

He hunts the woods, and usually sights in at 50 yards, so this load should work great. That 120 SST is intended for the 6.8SPC, which runs at about 2400-2500 fps, and this load runs in that window.

IMR4350 is the beat powder for 270 I have found though I've not tried all powders.
Starting and medium loads, in paper books, are quite mild.
If those and the H4895 light loads are too heavy.
Maybe buy her a quality 22?

Of three different R700 270s I loaded for,
the recoil is different in all three.
