Low $, High Qual. Neck Turning

PMA Model B neck turning tool (set up by PMA for 7mm with 35 deg. shoulder w/your preferred neck thickness), case holder and chuck, lube, expander mandrel - Total= $106...oh, and a $5 dollar set of feeler gauges from Harbor Freight, PRESTO! High quality results on a lean budget. You need to set up the drill press level and plumb, easy as sin. IMG_0082 (2).jpg

;)Ahem. You forgot to add in the cost of the drill press. Nice, tho I use a Dewalt cordless 'cause it's more portable.

That looks too locked down. Everyone says it needs to be able to wobble a bit for the best consistency. When I have neck turned there is a certain amount of wobble to everything. I worried about that but was surprised how perfect my brass turned out.

Yes. I prefer to hold the cutter in my hand. In such a way if the cutter should 'bite' it just pulls it out of your hand. Probably not OSHA approved but just the use of common sense.

Does your feeler gage measurements reflect the neck thickness when done.

My chamber is .317, my sized Norma brass is .015, .014 feeler takes off .001, .284 + .028=.312. That's the O.D. of my loaded rounds. So yes, it does reflect the thickness.

What? So you're saying you don't have a bench mounted drill press? C'mon this is 'Merica.
