Lot number question.

I went to a local shop and bought some 180's then a week later went back and bought some more. First time was in 100 round boxes second was a 500 count box. Lot number on the single boxes was 1 number less than the 500 count box. Are they the same lot? Shop owner says "Yeah, they were all bought at the same time"

If the numbers don't match exactly, they are not from the same lot, whether they were purchased at the same time or not.

I believe a different number is a different lot. But if the numbers are close they are probably about the same. Like made on the next shift or next day. They will probably measure about the same. Matt

Perhaps the extra number at the end indicates a box of 500 vice 100. Call the bullet manufacturing co. and ask.

Manufacturers assign Lot #'s to help identify/isolate quality issues. How they assign those numbers varies, some use a "time" period (run for eg. 15 mins. change Lot #'s) others use the "change/adjustment method (anytime an adjustment is done or a part is changed out change the Lot #s). So what does a single lot number change mean? Maybe nothing but time OR maybe a brand new set of dies etc.. 3 lots of one brand I have varies .053 from short to long in BTO measurements between lots, but within each lot they only vary .003 at most.
