Looking to load Berry's bullets in Hornady FTX brass. 45-70

I was wondering if there is a way to collet crimp the shorter FTX case using Berry's bullets instead of the FTX projectiles. I bought 5 boxes of loaded Hornady FTX Ammo figuring I'd save the cases for when I start reloading. I later picked up 100 Pieces of Starline brass which seat then crimp the berry's bullets fine. It was only after this I realized the Hornady shells are shorter than standard

If I seat the Berrys into the Hornady case for the OAL of 2550, I can't seem to get a crimp.

I will fire off the remainder of the factory Hornady loaded Ammo then sell the whole lot of Hornady cases if there is no trick or solution for loading the Berry's .

If you single load into the gun, work up your handload without the crimp. The crimp is needed for loading a tube magazine and to hold the shell together when that Boomer recoils! You need to work up an uncrimped load, as the crimp holds the bullet while more pressure builds. Microseconds, but important for accuracy. Keep your brass!

I shot off the 25 I made with the Berry's 2 at a time in my Marlin 1895. They worked great. Load 2, action the lever shoot shoot. But yeah, I wouldn't want to have a few in the tube mag while I shot. I do want to keep the same process for all the brass though. I guess I am looking for a way to crimp further down the OAL so I'm crimping the brass not the base of the exposed bullet.

Well, OK then. Whatever makes you happy. I have a Ruger #1, so I single load for that. Send me a PM if you want to sell that brass!;)
I also have a Winchester and a Siamese Mauser in 45/70 so I have a few to load for.

The point of crimp will be different based on case length. You may want to get a second roll crimp die if you dont like resetting them each time and use the hornaday sleeves. Using a long hardcast bullet may allow you to make the oal the same and the power load the same.

I only have 130 of these cases. Im not going to get a separate die just for 130 cases that won't be replaced once they time out. I'll probably just sell them if I can't set my Lee factory collet crimp. I'm not sure if they would make it across the border!

Just crimp them in a separate step.

Seat the bullets with out crimping. Then back out the seater stem all the way and adjust the die to only crimp.

Maybe I'm missing something ???

Hornady makes a new dimension die just for the shorter cases. I only bought one box of lever-evolution and don’t bother reloading those cases. I just stick with Starline.
