Looking to build an unlimited benchrest rifle with a Rail Gun Rest.

I hope to go to a match this year in Buffalo if they have another one. I also hope to attend one this weekend in Purple Haze in Colorado.

Range: Lands End Benchrest Shooters
Range: Land's End Benchrest
Discipline: Group
Class & Yardage(s): LV/HV 100/200
Date and Time: September 30, 2017 (All day) - October 1, 2017 (All day)

Anyone out there plan to attend that shoot?

Toby Bradshaw, Better to be thought of a fool than to open ones mouth and leave absolutely no doubt!!! If you were really familiar with our benchrest rules you would have known to read the entire section on equipment but you didn't! Section (e) of the rule book under equipment says manually and Mechanically Firing Mechanisims/Triggers
Ignition of cartridges must be achieved by mechanically operated triggers All trigger components must be contained within the rifle. Electric triggers, remote actuation and the use of pressure fluids are not allowed.
This paragraph is applicable to 10 1/2lbs, 13 1/2 lbs and unlimited rifles.

You learn something new every day if you start out dumb enough. You're right, I'm wrong.

Riverwolf gave you the best advice. I'm a noob to group shooting even though I've reloaded and shot long distance for years. I can testify it's a new world for me and have a machine shop and do a lot of my own work. That being said they are the friendliest group of guy I think I've ever met and love getting new people in the sport. Get a good mentor to help save you a lot of time and money and be humble because I promise there's more to it than you can imagine.

Ahhh... I see now. I am more interested in shooting tight groups. I realize beating the current records is very close to impossible but the challenge and competition are what attracts me.
Fifty caliber would do even better than thirty caliber in score shooting if it wasn't for the shock and recoil. :) I agree. I need to go to a match and see how it flies.
I will probably still build a rail gun for that reason but I will compete in the normal benchrest competitions as well. Thanks again for all the help.

OK, your comment regarding score shooting leads me to ask, "you do realize that that railgun target isn't a score target, right???" That there's 25shots in those 5 holes?

Just making sure

It is rewarding to steer someone seeking information, in the right direction.
It would appear that Aileron drove over to the shoot in Grand Junction, arrived yesterday and some of the guys I usually shoot with spent the afternoon with him, loaned him a rifle and went over all of the details of shooting the match. I understand that he shot the match today and placed 7th out of 38 shooters! Now there is more to the story, the person that helped him was just banned for life from shooting in any NBRSA matches! Rod is also the guy that loaned him the rifle! That's the kind of person Rod is, and the reason the NBRSA banned him for life was for spreading lies and rumors!! Rod worked hard all last year and shot well enough to make the USA benchrest team that's going to New Zealand, and since has been banned for life he won't be allowed to go!

Awesome report

Saw a thread about this at Benchrest Central. Anybody know where the 'whole story' can be found?

That needs to be posted at bench rest central. A hot thread about this with a lot of opinion.

Someoldguy,
The crux of the story is That Rods wife was the NBRSA Manager/Editor of the Precision shooting magazine, last year when the new nbrsa president took over, there was a clash of personalities and RodsWifequit but gave them 3.5 months to find and train a replacement. The situation worsened and accusations were abundant and Rod defended his wife. The old boys network in the nbrsa took revenge out on Rod saying he stole 2 years of membership, however he provided 6 years of IT work and redesigning and maintains the nbrsa website, which no one will say whether or not he was paid for that effort. In the end the BOD directors voted to ban him for life!

There is 2 Threads on BR central 1 is warning to nbrsa members, The other is right next to the first and comments are 8 pages long! They are in the competition section.

Ok. Thank you. I saw the warning thread, need to find the other, apparently.

Yep. I am aware of that and much more I learned today. My hat is off to that entire group. They are all a bunch great Ladies and Gentlemen who are willing to help the green horns like me that need it.

Rod brown in the 2016 minutes was listed as the technical representative mmmmmm

He got a 75 dollar membership for his efforts and then they kick him off the team something is amiss, maybe he should submit a 25grand bill and see their bums pucker,
