Looking for the 'best' bullet puller.

Well, I knew it would happen one day. I need to pull a lot of bullets. Which is the best bullet puller the RCBS or the Hornady or whatever and why?

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Jim,

I have the Hornady cam-lock bullet puller. I could never get it to work well without putting nasty marks on the bullets. If you don't use a lot of neck tension, the plain old kinetic hammer-style puller works as well as anything... but then you end up having to reweigh the powder too.

The Hornady tool might be like my experience with a Lee Collet die. Didn't work right at all till I honed and polished the collet and de-burred the fingers.

If you use the kinetic hammer, put a little piece of foam,or a couple patches) in the bottom. That will make it easier to retrieve the bullet and you won't mar the tip.

Jim, I'll second Paul's recommendation of the Hornady puller. I actually use it frequently to break down any ammo that didn't get shot during a match. It does a great job.

I have the Hornady, I found it damages bullets every time!
just purchased the RCBS which works a treat, I like the way you can "feel" the tension on the bullet, miles quicker than a kinetic hammer.
This is just my personal experience and opinion.

Bought a used reloading equipment package about 40 years ago. It came with a Forester puller and couple collets. It has worked well for many thousands of rounds. And the price is right.

I've used the RCBS Kinetic puller for years without a hitch. In fact I've never had to replace even one part of it. I'm sure it will outlast me.

The plier type puller from Sinclair works really well, as long as there's not alot of neck tension. Faster and "cleaner" too.

I started with the kinetic style but found you could damage the tip of the bullet unless you placed a small piece of foam in the bottom, but then the bullet was bouncing back up and putting a dint in the mouth of the case. Switched to the Hornady and have no complaints once I got used to it.

I have the:
RCBS
Hornady
Forster
Kinetic

I use the Kinetic for one or two mistakes without crimps.

I use the Hornady if I am serious.

I do not have all the collets in all the calibers for all the puller dies, so sometimes I have to use the RCBS or Forster.

The RCBS and Forster are not as good as the Hornady.

That is surprising, because I expect the best from Forster.
