here is some of the info i found from 12/2009 auction

Description: This is a beautiful example of a late 1960s, early 1970s Austrian made prototype rifle as imported by Crusader Arms. These rifles were all based on a scaled down Mauser style action with a grooved receiver and double set triggers, that was made in the "Tyrol" area of Southern Austria. The rifle and some parts bear the Austrian Eagle proof, with others marked "Tyrol" with "Bohler" marked steel barrels. However each had the same style small Mauser action with a laminated Walnut stock with a unique bulbous forend for a hand hold, with a European style checkpiece with a slight roll-over on the right side with a shadow line. The stocks also featured a ebony type angled forend tip and matching elongated pistol grip cap that extended to the lower toe of the stock. The left side of the receiver is marked; "007 CRUSADER ARMS LOUISVILLE KENTUCKY". The left side of the barrel is marked "17" for the caliber and serial number "007" with the right side stamped with the Austria Eagle "N" firing proof/2069.69" which probably indicates the date when it was made. The bolts were all jeweled and fitted with the traditional front locking lug design with a Mauser top mounted small claw extractor, small firing pin assembly for a fast lock time with a jeweled finish overall. The metal parts were hand polished with a deep blued finish and the barrel not fitted with iron sights.
BBL: 20 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 17
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 007

Perhaps a 17Javelina,certainly popular during that time frame.
Curious as to why barrel was not completely marked.Perhaps a chamber cast would be the best way to be sure.

Will be very interested to see how the chamber cast specs out.I very much like to hear about the original 17’s.I have a Sako 17-222 built by Ackley and a Falling Block Works 17 Ackley Bee that shoots amazing for such a thin short barrel.A friend in Texas has some of the original 17Magnums(17-222Mag)built on H&R Wildcats, also some 17s owned by Red Skelton.

I have a Cooper VE in 17Javelina and love it.The barrel is simply marked
17J ,I wished that they marked it completely.Glad to hear you got it sorted Alan.I bet Kevin G over on Saubiers would be interested in the rifle if you are selling it.It is a bit of work to make brass, but certainly worth it.Perhaps not the best choice for a fellas first 17 though.Years ago I got a 17Remington 700 VS from Zander’s with a stainless barrel and synthetic stock, there are a few around, not to mention some Sakos and Tikkas as well as some CZ’s.I am sure whatever you decide will wind up being fun,17s are a blast.

not sure i am ready to play with the 17 javelina, it is going up for sale, really would like to fine a 17 fireball since i have a tone of 221 brass... we will see i just got a small bolt face action to build something on...

This is the same time frame when H&R imported Sako Vixen/L46 actions and produced “factory” rifles in 17/222. The rifles are “factory” even if the ammo isn’t.
