Looking for Prone Smallbore Matches in the Northeast

When F class was introduced in the Highpower community, it was not widely accepted and took a while to gain popularity.
I see the same thing here with smallbore F class. It is going to take a while for it to catch on.
It being recognized by one or the other of the governing bodies does not make it a required discipline at any local match. The Match Directors need to see interest in it to include it in their program. Just look at how few Metric matches are held compared to Conventional in smallbore.
As for the optics question, there is no prejudice against optics in smallbore, half of just about every smallbore tournament is "any sight" where someone not using a scope is rare.
It is great to see someone with tremendous enthusiasm for a precision shooting sport so don't give up, go to as many matches as you can.

Thank you for your kind words and your analysis of the current situation with SB
F- Class is properly correct.

I am now in the process of drafting another
Email .This Email will be sent to local SB Prone Match Directors detailing our course of fire and in addition making the case that by including SB F- Class in their events attendance will increase over time.

@Iggyort
I shot several Delaware and Hudson Matches at West Point during the 2017/2018 season. I was the only FSB competitor so it became my winter practice. Lots of fun, super range and a great group of shooters. Ed Maheca is the league contact. You can reach him at emahecha@verizon.net

Proposed Schedule as of May 20, 2018:

To: D&H Leagues
Subject: Proposed 2018 – 2019 schedule

Dear Folks:

We have submitted a proposed schedule to FWMR seeking approval for our next season. The dates are as follows:
October 2018: 21, 28.
November: 4, 18. (Black Knight Air Gun Grand Prix 23, 24 and 25 November. Not part of the League).
December: 2, 16.
January 2019: 6, 13, 20 (JORC), 27.
February: 3, 10, and 17.
March: 10 (WPO 1), 17 WPO 2), and 24.

NOTES:

1. A total of 16 dates have been requested.
2. The D&H League Matches will run from 21 October through 17 February (12 dates). They will consist of Smallbore and Air Rifle matches and run as in the past.
3. The USA Shooting JORC will run on 20 January and is not a part of the D&H League competition. It will be a Smallbore and Air Rifle event.
4. 3 PTOs have been scheduled: 2 Dec., 13 Jan., and 10 Feb. They will run concurrently with our regular League competition on those days. This is being done because the off-season PTOs we tried last season were not populated enough to cover expenses. We will, however, try another off-season PTO on 24 March.
5. West Point Open: Will be run on 10 March and 17 March. It will be a total of 3 events: a) SB 3X20 run on 10 March, b) SB 3x40 run on 17 March and c) Air Rifle run on both dates. You may sign up for any combination of the 3 events. Awards will be given for 3X20, 3x40 and Air Rifle.
6. Bulletins detailing the League matches, PTOs and WPO will be published well in advance of the events.
7. Coach Wright will be running The Black Knight Air Gun Grand Prix on 23, 24 and 25 November. Bulletin with details to be published well in advance of the event.

As many of you may know, the management of the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center has been taken over by the Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) organization of West Point. This will be the first time we are asking for approval of our schedule through them. We hope that it goes through channels with a minimum of difficulty. The approval process traditionally is a lengthy one with final approval usually coming in September. We believe that the schedule as it stands is good enough for you to pencil us into you schedule for the coming season. We will be keeping in touch with FMWR and helping them in any way possible to make a smooth transition.

If you have any questions or suggestions about the coming season, please get back to me with them.

Finally, if you wish to have your contact information removed from our distribution lists and manifests just let us know.

Many thanks,

Ed Mahecha

If you are interested in shooting at WP, contact him soon as there is a good deal of paper work that needs to be completed before they will let you on base.
Hope to see you there.

First of all, F-Class is allowed as part of NRA Conventional Outdoor Smallbore Prone competition, so long as the match director feels like creating a separate/ tyro class. The NRA rulebook calls for F-Class shooters to fire on the NRA Metric targets (NRA A-50/51, NRA A-26/27, & NRA A-33).

You cannot compete directly against someone shooting sling. If there are enough shooters, the MD can create a separate class. I would not count on a match director creating a separate class, or more importantly a second relay, to accommodate anything less than 5 F-Class shooters.

I do believe that you can use a scope, on both days - still competing in a separate, F only class.

A26/27 are officially conventional targets, not metric even though the A26 is a 50 METER target.
I believe that they're optional, more challenging 50 yd/m targets that don't get used a lot.
Inconsistently, there are no equivalent 100 yd/m targets.

The A-26/A-27 is part of the normal 1200, or 1600 conventional prone course of fire. What I have seen at mixed prone matches are shooters firing F-Class as a separate class in the match, will use the A-51 in place of the A-23/5 or A-23/6, and the A-33 in place of the A-25. They do however use the A-26/A-27, when everyone else switches to the A-26/A-27.

It seems counter intuitive - to go from firing the A-51 for Match No.1, and then moving to the A-27 for Match No.2 (or the A-26 if you have a 50M line), and then back to the A-51 for Stage 1 of Match No. 3 (the Dewar Course). However - F-Class in Conventional prone is limited to F Restricted, the change of 'hold' can be a mental challenge for many competitors.

All of this is moot if your match director won't allow the separate classification. For more information, check out sections 7 and 23 of the NRA Smallbore Rules.

I was going by what it says in the book. Interesting to hear what gets done in the real world. As goes with the thread - MDs can do just about anything they want. :)
