Looking for Prone Smallbore Matches in the Northeast

I have recently been bitten by the Prone Smallbore bug. F- Class SB to be more exact. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate any SB Prone Matches in the Northeast.

I am looking in NY, Ct. , NJ , Pa and even Delaware.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have Smallbore rifle and will travel !!

Welcome to the sickness! I owe most of my (still fairly limited) success in High Power to years of learning good form and trigger control in smallbore prone. It's amazing what sins you can hide with 3000 fps that come blazing into light with sub-sonic ammo!

First club that leaps to mind in that area is the Niantic Sportsmen's Club (http://nianticsc.net/). I mostly know them as a 3P junior club, but they would be my first stop for finding other matches in the region. I believe there are some in New Jersey as well.

While it's not in the northeast, the Western Wildcat in Phoenix every March is worth traveling to. It's a 6400 (4 days, 160 shots per day), and one of the most fun, well-run matches you can ask for at a facility (Ben Avery) that is a monument to shooting sport.

You might ask the same question over on TargetTalk.org, too; that's my go-to for other smallbore-specific questions.

Good luck!

There is a 1600 prone match this Sunday in southern New Jersey at the Cumberland Riflemen range. Go to www.cumberlandmatches.com for info.
Other than that, there are several clubs in Pennsylvania that hold matches. Look up North End rod and gun, Seitzland rifle club and Wilkesbarre rifle and pistol club. All have upcoming matches.

We have mini-palma with f-class monthly in Rochester,NY and there is a 100 yard shoot in Springwater,NY that's mostly score BR with me shooting prone by myself. More details if you might want to come this far.

There is a smallbore prone coming up in Schenectady. I went to one in June as the only f-class shooter and wasn't planning on doing that again. Maybe we could commit to both go?

By Schenectady, do you mean Iroquois Rod & Gun Club in Rotterdam?

The league at West Point is scheduled to be run again this winter. They shoot traditional 3 position, but if you ask they might let you use a rest.

Seitzland Rifle Club in New Freedom, PA. runs several throughout the season (May-Oct.), we run ours in Fairfax over the Labor Day weekend. PM me for more info.

Upcoming prone matches (some w/ F-Class)

Wilkes-Barre Rifle & Pistol Club - Sept 22-23
North End Rod & Gun Club - ASSA Regional w/ ASSA F-SBR (September)
Seitzland (New Freedom) Rod & Gun Club - Sept 22-23
Dormont / Mt. Lebanon Rod & Gun Club - PA state prone match 04-05 August

ASSA is working with match directors to include F-SBR in their matches and will update our site with this information as it is confirmed.
Regards,
ken

I traded emails with the Match Director for the Cumberland matches. Basically , no SB F-Class at his Matches .Only sling shooters. :/

From my location in NJ that is a 9 hour drive. If they ran a 3200 Match I would go.

Thank you for the information. I will monitor their Web Site

Who is the contact point? I have not shot the West Point league in over 25 years. It is still the Delaware and Hudson League?

Yeah, I was thinking from your OP you were probably in downstate NY.
Sounds like you're fairly well off for shoots in Jersey and especially southern PA.

Let us know what you find with multiple f-class shooters. I went to one 'prone' as the only f-class. I don't regret it but I'm in no hurry to do it again. At least I did score higher than any sling shooter :)

The other thing to do is plan a couple long trips per year to nationals or regionals. We have two sb nationals with f now, NRA and ASSA. Both just finished. I didn't feel quite ready this near and now I'm anxious for next year already.

Permit me to "Muddy the Waters " a bit.

Here is my e mail to my Chairman of Smallbore.

Sir

I am contacting you because it is my understanding that you are the Chairman for Smallbore Rifle here in New Jersey and I would like to discuss an issue that I have encountered .

Let me begin by informing you, that I am a member of the Association, a NRA Life Endowment member and in addition, I also belong to the Somerset County Fish and Game Protective Association, the Old Bridge Rifle and Pistol Club and the Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club.

Now, on to my issue. As you are well aware ,
the NRA Competitive Shooting Programs has recognized SB F Class as a discipline that can be shot along side of Conventional Prone Matches. However, everytime I have contacted a Match Director here in NJ about competing in their match they have politely said I can't compete in their events using my chosen discipline. I am not sure if this reluctance to let me compete is because they are not aware of this new discipline or some type of prejudice against optics.

Can you assist me with this issue or direct me to the person that can ?

Thank you for your time,

Iggyort

The response was : It's up to the Match Directors.

Well you definitely can't 'compete' against the sling guys.

Is it clear you're proposing to shoot formally but in your own class?

Most smallbore shooting recognizes Any(optical) sights as a division on sling guns. Are they really iron only puritans?
