Looking for opionions

Yeah yeah I know what opionions are like. Maybe this is more of a survey. Anyway. I'm get ready to finish up my new build and don't know which way to go. The barrel is stainless. Should I polish it or bead blast it? I've read where bead blast cools quicker, is this true? Being an old car guy if it ain't painted I what it to shine. So I guess my question is have any of you experimented with this? Thanks, Alan

Heat dissipation is determined by surface area that is exposed to cooler air temp. I guess you could make a mechanical & thermodynamic arguement that something with a blasted surface has more surface area on a microscopic level, therefore additional exposure, but it would be like implying that the government could reduce its deficit by imposing an additional 5 cent tax on all snickers bars sold in specific counties of just 10 states.

The matte finish WILL cool quicker. Shiny metal or steel surfaces reflect heat back in on itself, and has a lower thermal mass than it's matte counterpart. Heat also leaves the steel at a faster rate through a matte finish if it is dark enough. There is a good reason why a large portion of the skin tiles on the Space Shuttle are matte and dark colored 8)

Polish it, I like shiney things too. Look at lot better than dull. ;D

Even if matte cools quicker (and I think that's a big IF), it won't be enough to matter (no pun intended). So, polish the hell out of it, and satisfy your shiny preference.
