Looking for opinions and direction on buying a DPMS BULL 20 rifle............

Good Morning, Over the last few years I have accquired an interest in owning a AR type rifle in .223 Remington for varmint hunting and need some opinions and direction on buying one. I have a friend...who has a friend with a DPMS Bull 20 rifle in 223 Remington that is for sale. What I would like to know is....How does DPMS compare to all of the other AR manufactured rifles on the market today? My use interest for the rifle would be for varmint shooting....woodchucks and maybe coyotes. This also fits into my budget as far as buying it, plus all of the reloading components to feed it. Thanks, Richard Ramsey

I would say DPMS is as good as RRA,Bushmaster, etc. If you want to go custom,go with a DTECH or Specialized dynamics upper. I would have suggested a 24" barrel but since you said coyotes,I would opt for a 18"-20" barrel with a 1-9 twist. Also get a good trigger.
I personally have a RRA lower with a Sabre upper in 204 Ruger with a 24" heavy barrel. I have no problem using it from prairie dogs to coyotes. It is my go to gun for night hunting.

Good luck with your search.

I have quite a few AR platform rifles. One is a DPMS with a 24" heavy barrel. With 55gr bullets it a tack driver. On our last trip out west to Nebraska prairie dog shooting my wife took it over and I just loaded mags for her. 400yds and down they did not have a chance. The only thing we have changed on this rifle is the trigger and replaced the rear take down pin.
I also have a DPMS LR308 with a 24" barrel in 308. On a good day it has shot 3" at 600yds with 168Amax &165grSGK with 44gr of Varget loaded as long as the mag allows.
I also have a LR308 with a 18" barrel that will not hit the 3ft gong at 600yds, jams ever second shot and the extractor pulls through the rim of the case. This will be a winter project.
