Looking for opinion on reamer for 6 mm BRX.

I'm looking for everyone's opinion on a reamer for a 6 mm BRX. I intend on shooting blue box lapua brass with a no turn neck and only Berger 105 hybrid bullets. I have a reamer that is a .2704 with a 104 freebore but I wondered if I should get something different before spending the money to chamber several barrels.

With the .2704 neck you will likely have to turn your brass for a clean up. It happened to me and I sold my .272 and I am kicking myself.

I have three 6mmbrx Reamers:

My old stand by has a .272" neck and 104" freebore (no neck turn w/Lapua brass) Use .266 bushing

My second reamer has a .271" neck and .040: free bore, I use a 1* throating reamer to cut the desired free bore, (again using Lapua brass and a .265" bushing.

My third reamer has a .268" neck and .040" free bore, again I use a 1* throating reamer and cut the free bore according to bullet selected, and a .264" bushing.

I would suggest going with at least a .120 free bore. Perhaps even more, since the Hybrids seem to like to be jumped 0.015 to 0.030.

The advantage of only .040" free bore it that it gets you started straight with the chamber. Then measuring the necessary throat cut and doing it with a piloted throating reamer gives you limitless options.

Hi Nat, doing it your way seems to make very good sense ! Can you turn the piloted throating reamer with a hand setup instead of needing a lathe without sacrificing precision? Would there be any downside to doing it this way?
