Looking for New Rifle -- Tikka or Bergara?

As much as I love tikkas, I think the bergara premier might be the best bet.

I’d I decide to change stocks on the tikka to run aics mags, which I will at some point I’m sure, I’ll have as much or more in it as the premier.

Premier has changeable bolt heads too which is cool. Ugh. I hate to turn my back on tikka

I like Tikkas. The first one I ever owned was a M695 in .280. Man that rifle would hammer.

Have a T3 in 6.5 PRC with a Hawk Hill barrel, sweet rifle. I hunted with it last year using fire forming loads. Put meat in the freezer with 135 grain Berger.

I currently have two 6.5CM, one is a standard varmint I’ve pretty much retired in favor of a 20” in a B&C stock as a walking gun. Still messing with load development, but even the load ladder is almost good enough to hunt with at 100-150 yards.

I would also be upset if a tikka only put out 1.5” groups.
I am not a great shooter and was able to hand load two different bullet weights all touching

Tikka IMO, but zero experience w Bergara.

I’m not 100% that all of these were cold bore shots. I will do cold shots once in awhile through several trips. Same bullet and distance. Temperature changed.


I rethinking that rifle’s retirement status…..

Had both Bergara gone Tikka stays, my thompson center venture outshot the Bergara very ammo sensitive,Tikka shoots any factory superbly, as does the cheap Thompson.

I think I’m going to grab a 16” tac a1 308 and in about 6 weeks, grab the SV in 6.5

Well, plans changed quick!
I was at academy today and they had a 16.5” Remington sps tactical 308 and a tikka ctr in 6.5 with 24” barrel.

Decent prices and I got 10% off for military… so I got them both.
Talking with someone about a good deal on their tac a1 chassis.

I pulled mine out of the safe and re scoped it last night, shot it this morning.

TC Ventures shoot very good too. I’ve had a few over the years and they were extremely accurate

TC venture will not be embarrassed by any , and I say any rifle manufacturer out there , you will hit your target consistently if the scope is mounted properly.I had the trigger weworked by Mcarbo , and set at 1lb drop tested it is awesome.I personally would shoot my TC against anything out there. The 1/10 twist in my 204 TC will shoot about anything weightwise.

I don't think you can go wrong with either. I have a Tikka, shoots very well, easy to find a load right from the start. Plenty of aftermarket support for both.

I have 3 Tikka, a lite 223, varmint 223 in a bravo, and 243 rebarreled to 6 creed in a bravo. My buddy just got a 223 super varmint. I helped him get it all set up, sight in etc. That one is shooting 50 gr Fiocchi vmax well under moa consistently.We slaughtered the prairie dogs last week.

They all shoot great and no trigger work needed.

I don't care for the super varmint. Hope they continue to make the regular varmint. Its ok, but its a lot of money for little gain. In particular I dont like that the rail is epoxied on, but it has no cant. I don't understand why its not a 20 moa rail. The regular bolt is smoother than the fluted bolt. The trigger is about 12 ounces heavier on the lightest setting. The super varmint could use a trigger spring. It could smooth out with use though. Its only got 200 rounds on it. I measured the weight before ot was fired.

My buddy has a 6.5 creed bagara and loves it. That is the only other factory rifle I would consider. Another I would maybe look at is a seekins.

IMHO if you plan to get a stock etc, the higher end factory rifles are getting really close to a budget custom. I sort of stick with the tikka platform only cuz all the parts etc interchange and its consistent. If I was to start over I would just use custom actions from bat, borden, or ARC.
