Looking for metal schnabel forend

I am looking for a metal schnabel forend like the one pictured below. This pic is from a Mauser my father acquired many years ago and I am looking for one similar for a project I have in mind. I have searched the net and can't find anything.

I have one somewhere in my parts boxes. You can have it if I can find it. I think I found it in a “Ruger replacement parts” site. I bought it and it wouldn’t fit because my barrel was too big. I made a fake with ebony.View attachment 1717187
Hi Josh,

I have a Ruger 10-22 with the Mannlicher stock. Does this look like it might be the one you have?

The top has a measurement of approximately .555 and the barrel measures about .600.

I did not think of using one of those. I might have to if I can't find a Schnabel. I really appreciate the offer, but I would like to wait just a bit and see if anything comes up a little closer to what I am after.

Thanks

Jim

Hey Jim: My memory says it’s the one in your first picture. I’ll dig it out, this morning.
Josh
Well, I can’t trust my memory. Here it is. The “hole” for the barrel is 5/8”. It’s the one on your 10/22.

I have one that I got from Brownells. It is not in the package. I have a stock and action that need to be finished with it. Hope to get to it soon. It has been on the shelf for close to 10 years.

Brownells used to sell these nosecaps. I just tried to find one for you but they happen to have the worst search engine I've seen on a website. Good luck!
Absolutely right. I spent at least 20 minutes trying to navigate their site, and all I got was more frustrated the longer I was on it.

Thanks.

Jim

Brownells doesn't sell the same sort of custom gunmaker's supplies that they used to. They concentrate more on the black rifle and pistol market today. The last full-length stock I made, I made the nose cap and the steel grip cap, because I couldn't buy one. WH

Yes, Brownells had them, may still. Last one I fitted was nearly 50 years ago and thats where I got it.

PS. I also hate trying to find anything on their site.

Just called Midway and they are expecting the item from NECG on the 8th.

Did some more research and found NECG is an American based outfit that has all kinds of really pretty stuff in their catalog. Found the Schnabel nose piece but they don't have a price or whether it is in stock or not. Never heard of the place.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Hi Will,

I always enjoy reading your posts. Would you tell us how you made the nose cap for that rifle.

Thanks.

Jim

There’s a small one on eBay right now.

Brownells looks to be obsolete. Part number search comes up empty. Picture from an old print catalog.

Hi WSnyder,

clowdis posted a link to a Midway item that is supposed to be in the 8th of December. It is the NECG item I am looking for so I will wait until then and see if I can get one from them.

Thanks for the information.

Jim
