Looking for melonited, polygonal savage bbl . . . where or how to get?

Hello,

Where/how can I get a melonited, polygonal savage prefit? I'd like to buy it already melonite'd, but if the web gurus say only way is to send off for treatment), then I could be persuaded otherwise....but who and where to use?

I'm planning a new build, and I'm looking for a purveyor of savage-type melonited bbls...was thinking remage (for a 700) or small shank savage (for an Axis) depending on what action I find within budget...open to suggestions. I also have a marlin xs7vh w 26" 308 bull boyds stock, that is a real shooter, and was thinking I could get a melonited x7 prefit for that action when it wears out...separate and apart from this. But I'm looking at a new build using an off-shelf 700 or axis action, in 6.5CM or 6BRX.

My requirements are:
  • greater than or equal to 28",
  • melonited (I could be persuaded to break it in and then send it off for treatment, but I prefer to buy it lapped and melonited from the start),
  • polygonal rifling,
  • chambered in 308Win, 6.5CM, or 6mmBRX,
  • and should come prefit to fit a 700 (remage) or axis or x7 action.

I use nothing but BHW for all my Savage rigs.
All are P3 poly grooved & all print in the sub moas no matter the caliber.
They don't melonite & don't recommend that on their poly barrels as I asked them a bit ago when a pal wanted his BHW melonited.
You will need to ship it to a coater no matter what brand bbl you get from what Ive seen.

Ok thanks guys, I appreciate your help. Let's me know I'm not completely missing something. I was afraid I'd have to send it off, so I'll get with some friends and do a combined order and split the cost. I'll use burlington or trutec (it's Parker Trutec now?..I think).

I wanted the polygonal rifling (combined w melonite qpq) because it has---in my opinion---very good wear resistance and low copper fouling. But opinions are like buttholes. I'm not intending this/these bbls to be match grade F class, but simply sub moa shooters with my handloads close to the lands....but what I also want is longterm durability. ...I don't have enough experience to truly preach on this issue, but my limited experience has taught me that melonite polygonal rifling gives me the most of what I want overall...very good (not great) accuracy with durability. To me the bottom line is...a polygonal rifled bbl seems to shoot a first shot (non-fouled bbl) round more closely to a fouled-shot round (with the bbl fouled/warmed) than does enfield rifling....does that make sense? I may not be typing well, tonight. In other words, the difference between a first shot fired from a completely cleaned bbl seems to be LESS DIFFERENT in comparison to shot from a fouled bbl when using polygonal rifling than when using enfield rifling. For a competition shooter, ehhhh that's not such a huge deal. But you know...opinions are like a--holes.

I had been looking at BHW for some time, I'm glad to hear the vote of confidence for them. They also have that 308B chambering that I was interested in learning more about. Perhaps I can get them to do an X7 prefit bbl (to account for the variance with the bolt on the savage action). The problem I see with them is that they do a 3R, but not a 5R rifling. My thoughts on the 3R vs 5R are still in the winds. Maybe I'll just buy one and see what I think.

Thanks again, gentlemen.
