Looking for ideas on how to reduce my front sight height

I have a Remington 700 ML with open sights. I mounted a Lyman peep sight on the rear receiver, however when I went to adjust it, to co-witness the current sights, it sits excessively high.

Both the front sight blade and rear sight sit quite high above the bore. So if there is a way to reduce the height of the front sight (2 screw attachment), that would allow me to have the peep sight at a much lower and stronger position. I have checked around for options I might purchase, but haven't found anything.

Any suggestions for how to accomplish this?

It seems you would be able to find a dovetail blade type to fit the existing dovetail, then you could file the blade to the height you want.
Maybe check w/ Brownell's for the blade sight.

Ok, so I have a 3/8 dovetail (should have known this). Is this the correct way to measure the sight height?

Yes, at least generally speaking, sight height is measured from the top of the barrel. Of course tapered barrels change diameter. I'm not sure if this will help or not but here's a sight height calculator. Even if it's not exactly what you're looking for, it may be helpful in extrapolating it.
