Looking for an electronic scale

I'm looking to upgrade from an RCBS 1010 beam scale to an electronic one for faster charging and more accuracy. I was thinking of getting an acculab vic-123, but have heard of sensitivity issues.

I will be using the scale at times in my camper when I'm out on varmint hunts, so the possibility of breezes coming through are present.

Based on my input, what would be a scale to use that is friendly and accurate? Will be loading for a 6BR, so would like to use for sorting as well. Thanks for any help.

I have the dillon electronic and works great but breezes have to be stopped from interfering with its operation .This goes for all scales that are electronic.

I also noticed that heat sources can be an issue. I usually run the propane heater in the camper and sometimes use an portable electric heater at home. Can these be serious issues for electronic scales? If I'm better off with a beam scale, anything a little more accurate than the RCBS 1010 (I mean if I'm off by a few degrees when I think it's center)? Thanks

An RCBS ChargeMaster 1500 Powder Scale and Dispenser Combo is being used more and more at short range BR matches. A variety of portable power sources make setting it up anywhere trouble free. Placing thin strips of foam with adhesive backing around the interior edges of the pan cover seals out the elements. Although some shooters build a small case for it, that can get bulky.

Given the conditions you will be using the scale in, I'd stick with the beam scale. You mentioned but a few issues that drive electronic scales NUTS. Consider uneven electricity flow can create problems and mobile generators aren't particularly nice to electronic scales. As it is, I use a surge protector for my scales inside the house and make sure there are no sudden changes in airflow, direct light or any of the other factors that throw electronic scales wacko. Plus, given the number of rounds you'd be loading inside your camper on a hunting trip, it just isn't worth the hassle or aggravation that an electronic scale COULD bring on under those particular conditions.

Tell you what NOT to buy. Been at "war" with Hornady for the past week. Bought one of those Lock -N-Load Dispensers a week ago.

No directions, usually.1 grain short, overs and locks up, no directions, defaults to auto often, difficult to change charge weights and clear (make that near impossible), no directions, internet additional information wrong, phone calls to them yield reps. unable to answer simple questions or are wrong, dumping globs (think the threaded part is too short), no assembly instructions, failure to correspond and the worst part - no directions.

Seriously. It's an incomplete product in need of R & D. At this point I feel "taken".

i have a Redding beam scale that i love using. i also have an unused, new in box extra if interested.

Stick with your 1010 in the camper. About the only "better" beam you will find for grains is the 304 or its tan brother the ohaus dial o grain. These are bulkier scales.

Hints on the 1010 are to have the scale on a solid base and the level indicator at eye level. Put a small granite or marble slab with a couple of old mousepads under scale to help dampen vibrations. Make sure that the ends of the "knives" are centered in the Vblocks, not touching either end, and both are clean of dust, powder or other grit. Last, when you set the pan on the scale, do it as gently as you can to prevent swinging.

Wind and heat will also effect the 1010 scales same as the electronic scales, you won't get the electronic problems with the beam scales. The difference between the electronic scales and the beam scales is the same difference between 4 power on your
scope and 42 power, you notice heart beat and other movement much more on 42 than 4. you have herd people say I cant shoot a high power scope I shake to much but I don't shake on low power. Yes you do! you just don't see it. Same with the scales, the electronic scales are just way more sensitive. I think you will be more happy with the beam scales though in the camper, I tried to do what your going to do with a battery operated frankford scales and it didn't work out to well.

get an acculab....the best by far. i have used a beam scale for years, then i bought a rcbs chargemaster and loved it, just didn't like how it would over throw some times. i also noticed the zero seemed to wander....no matter how long i warmed it up. sold it and got an acculab from sinclair. haven't regretted it for a monment. as with most things, buy the best first and save yourself a lot of money and grief.

Why dont you get vial bottles and weigh it all at home.Everytime I read this thread there is somethiing else that effects something else that effects something else.Maybe we should design an acculab total vacuum room without light and lead lined walls to stop all interferance whatsoever.This is getting a little ridiculous.LOL I think sinclair sells the vials to hold the powder.
