Looking for a scope for 100-200 score shooting

I am looking to buy a scope for 100-200 score shooting primary . I would like to spend less than $1000.00 dollars on the scope. I was thinking about the leopold comp in 45x or the weaver 46xr . Please give me some feed back on these two scopes and any other models that you think would fit the bill. I am just getting to the sport and trying to get a setup so I can shoot next spring with out breaking the bank and still be competitive.

If it were me with that budget,I would start looking here and on benchrest central for a used one seeing as they both have full warranty no matter who owns them. I have shot rifles with the 45x leupold comp scope and like them very much. The weaver is too new.I would wait a year on that to make sure there are few if any problems with them. You could also consider a sightron 10-50 competition scope as they are good value in your price range and their warranty is pretty good.

I'd go with a used Nightforce 12-42 BR. Your budget is right where they fall in terms of price. In score shooting, unless shooting in the 10lb hunter/vh classes, the only reason to not build a 13.5lb rifle is for world record consideration in light varmint class. Weight is the only weakness of this scope. It's pretty much a non issue whenbuilding a 13.5lb gun but a major hurdle for a 10.5lb lv rifle. If building a 30 Cal, I probably wouldn't even consider a 10.5lb rifle. The nf is a proven commodity and is probably the most commonly used scope in score shooting.

I've used two Weaver 36X competition scopes and two Leupold 45X competition scopes for both Score and Group matches. My favorite is the Leupold 45X with fine crosshairs. :)

I have the Weaver 46 XR and it is an very clear scope and I also have a couple of Weaver T-36 scopes and for the money they are a very good value

If you are interested in a Leupold Competition 45, I have one listed for sale on Benchrest Central. Thanks Jim (Under Oh Dee.)

Eric: A Weaver T-36x would meet your requirements for 1 & 200 yards. Buy it new and you will have the Weaver warranty. They have been around for a very long time and have a record of being a good value for the cost. I seldom hear of problems with them. If you decide to go for a higher end scope in the future, they hold their value within reason.

For longer distances, yes a variable power with higher magnification would be better, but you spoke of 200 yards maximum. I see them being used beyond 200 yards./meters at our local varmint for score match's, and some do very well with them, but they do have trouble spotting their shot holes at the further distances, compared to those of us using Nightforce Benchrest 12-42x's, Sightron's, Leupold Comp. etc.

There are a lot of good choices out there.

+1 on above. And, if you add a booster to it (such as the BulzEyePro:

I have a BulzEye on my T36 and don't see an increase of 10 power?
