Looking for a load for the .243 using the Hornady 80gr. GMX??

Howdy, first post here but I've been around a while, I'm not new to reloading, shooting or hunting. I started pulling a lever when I was about knee high on my Dads old rock chucker.

I'm looking to see what other shooters experience is with the 80gr Hornady GMX.

I've got the latest edition hornady book, plus a few powder manufacturers web sites for info, but what I'm mainly looking for is what has worked for you.

So far I've gathered that Varget & RL-19 are favorites amongst .243 reloaders.

The rifle is a Rem 700 with a 20" sporter 1 in 9 twist rate.

Thanks, Lee

I've never used that particular bullet, but 4895 has never let me down with any bullet I have used. I got lucky with a sporter weight rifle that was just a great shooter (old Ruger 77) and after trying a few powders settled in with the 4895. I'm sure there's newer ones that work as well, and it would be odd to find a 243 that doesn't shoot pretty well. jd

MY FAVORITE POWDER FOR MY 243 'S (5) IS H-414 IT HAS WORKED THE BEST OUT OF MY SHOP AND I SHOOT ALOT OF 243'S HAVE NOT TRIED THE 80GR GMX

WELCOME ABOARD LEE

I use RL19 with 105 AMAX and IMR 4350 with 95 SMK. Never have used the 80GMX. I'm working with H4831 to see if I can use it too. My Savage 12 with 1 in 9.125 twist wouldn't shoot well with lighter bullets. Didn't get into the zone untill the 87 VMAX

Being it's a 20" pipe i would not turn my nose up at some good old H-380 along with the earlier mentioned H-414.

Good luck
