Looking for a Leica ER5 2-10x50 with 4-a reticle

This may be a discontinued model, but I am looking. Would like any information you may have on this model. It is not the ERi and it is superior for low light applications, think moonlight.

Another possibility is the Leica ERi 3-12x50 with illuminated 4-a reticle, I am sure this is a discontinued model. Also for low light applications.

They are closing them out at Europtics right now-$499. I have been trying to resist all week.

I can't compare to the Luppy, but this morning at 6:30, a half hour before sunrise, I could see through my brand new ER5 3-15x56 well enough to have shot a coyote. I like it!

I bought one of the 2.5-10 ERi that was on sale at Europtic, I liked enough that when they put the ER 5 series on sale I bought two of them in 3-15. They showed up yesterday and I liked them, I ended buying two of the 2.5-10s today.

They are very clear, the turrets feel solid, the aren't overly heavy and at the prices they are being sold for at the aforementioned outlet I feel like they are an incredible value.

How do the er5 compare to the vx 3 leupold
No comparison, Leica is way better. I talked to the Leica guys at the Shot Show this year and found out they had discontinued the ER 5 line. Reason, German engineers don't think US workers can properly assemble their scopes. Very sad because this scope is by far a value at $1200-1400. A real value when Euro Optics closed them out at half price.

They had Leupold make a line of scopes for them many years ago. That didn't work out well. German quality and craftsmanship happens in Germany... not the U.S.

This Leica ER5 is pretty nice for the price. The 4a reticle is just not my thing, though, which is why I haven't put it on a rifle.

I'm fine with the 4a (from what little I've used one). I have a Leica 3-15x56 on a 308 and put one on a x-bolt stalker 300wsm a few weeks ago. Took it out last weekend and it won't group 165 gr Fusions or the 150gr that shoot half inch groups in my Winchester XPR 300wsm. I'm talking awful. 4-5 inches. Not sure yet if it's the rifle or scope. Going to try 200 gr ELD--X. If it won't group those, I'll try the scope on another rifle to check it.

Well its the scope that's bad. Put a Monarch 5 on the 300wsm and it's zeroed putting 180 gr Nosler Partitions in 0.6 inch groups.
Now I'll see how Leica's customer service is.

I've had my hands on a buddy's ER5 (4-20x50) when i was considering buying one, so here's my take.

Great glass as usual with Leica, but definitely not the best glass I've seen from them. Glass is about right for its original price point of $1K+. Reticles are very thick compared to other scopes. Way too thick for my taste when shooting long range. Then there's the capped turrets...Pulled the caps off and started dialing to get a feel for them. To my surprise they were probably the worst I have ever felt on any scope. Couldnt possibly get any mushier. I have felt better turrets on no-name Chinese scopes. Absolutely awful turrets.

Talking to my buddy more afterwards about the scope he mentioned he had just got it back from Leica after sending it in for repair. Said when he was shooting it the entire image went completely out of focus and couldn't get it clear again which rendered it useless. So I can't say that they are very durable scopes either.

So it's no surprise to me at all that Leica discontinued production of the ER5 line. They may have tried to put the blame on American assembly workers for failure of the scopes, but there's no doubt the components they gave them to use in the scope were very low quality.

Just my experience and opinion with one ER5 scope. Take the information however you like.

I have one with a ballistic reticule. It is too fine to deer hunt out of stands in the evening. I am not a "refined" shooter, I just shoot, so I don't notice most of the find points some others do. The only thing that bothers me is that they have the WORST warranty service per a friend's experience with them.
