Looking for a good optics

Brand new to the shooting game,Most of you probabally heard my story) and I am currently using a New Monarch Nikon on my Remington 700, but I hate it. Dont' get me wrong, it's a great scope, but it's not a target scope IMO,Best hunting scope I have for Whitetail hunting up here) and I am wondering what would be a good replacement. I am getting a brand new gun and might as well lookup a new scope. I'm currently looking at a Nightforce NXS scopes. But I dont know whether or not they're too good. I've looked at them but I've never shot through one,Because I want to buy ONE scope and have it at that) so I'm wondering if I can have some professional input.

weight is the concern if its short range 100-300 yards the NF will be to heavy for sporter & LV.if its long range 600-1000 NF is good because they are allowed more weight.Don't rush look around.
The different disciplines have different rules thus different rifle configurations. If you order a new custom now it will take a year to arrive anyway. If your in a hurry get a good second=hand gun & find out what takes your fancy discipline wise.
good luck Jim

Unless, weight is a subject that matters I would reccomend the NF NXS. I own three of them and have no complaints with neither.
I also own three MK IV Leupolds and even thought they are fine scopes I still prefer the NF anytime. Hope this helps. Bill

So many reticles to choose from,I was looking on Midwest and it seemed as if theyre all illuminated.Do alot of benchers shoot illum? And is there a target dot that is acceptable?
Man $1400.00 is double what I paid for my best scope in the safe,But like the man said "spend all that money on a rifle, dont put junk on top"

You will not be disappointed with the NF NXS. It is a bear when it comes to durability, glass, fit and function, etc. I'm no BR shooter but I like the DD reticle and the MLR reticle. Bill

If I had 50K to spend on a rifle, I would buy Nightforce and not look back ! Why drive a Volkswagon when you and drive a
Cadillac ? ? ? ?

Yes Sir. I sure do. The intensity is adjustable but I have never bothered mine. I suppose what I like most is the switch. It is located behind the paralax adjustment on the NXS ONLY. Just pull out for on and push in for off. No big bulky knob on top of the eyepiece. Just one of those things that always was a turn off on a scope, for me anyway. Bill

On my competition rifles I have taken off the NXS and gone back to the BR because the added complexity and feature of the NXS is not needed.

If you are not building a dedicated BR rifle and want to step up to the best optics look at USO and the PMII series by S&B.

Bryan from NF told me that the NXS series has an extra lens, for the side focus) which in turn makes it slightly more complex, more parts), and SLIGHTLY less clear,,resolution wise) than the BR series. I have read that if you want a sniper scope, the NXS series is about as stout/tough as you can buy. If your scope is for a dedicated bench gun, the BR series has the advantage to adjust paralax more precisely with the larger ring AO vs. the smaller knob of the SF, and the better resolution. Personally, my eyes can't tell the difference.

Donovan, I can see where the BR would be more prefered by certain groups of shooters. I guess it is just a personal preference for me. I don't know why but that dog gone switch on top of the eyepiece really bothers me and I like the side focus
on the NXS better. And, truthfully, for the time being my shooting is limited to 200 yds. for now since we lost our 600 yd. spot due to Development complainers. That was the longest shot I have ever taken with the NF scope. Don't get me wrong now, I think the BR models are fine scopes. Bill
