Looking for a good 223 seater die

The RCBS die i have if the bullet is not perfect in the case it chips the vmax bullet tip. Looking for a brand that has the seater that slides up & down in the press to help guide the bullet. What brand & type does this Thanks

I love my Redding, Wilson, Forster and Whidden dies. That said, when I’m putting bullets in 223 cases, I reach for my RCBS Competition seater. It has the “window” you drop the bullet into. It makes life soooo much easier when dealing with those little bullets!

I had the same problem seating 55gr Vmax, almost every tip would get chipped. I switched to a Forster Ultimate seater die and never looked back. I'm pretty sure I bought it from a forum member a few years back.

I had a problem with a LEE die smashing/breaking the tip off of vmax bullets, called LEE and they suggested/told me to use a drill bit and slightly enlarge the hole in the seating stem. I had trouble believing they would say that, but did try it and it solved the problem for me. I also have a Hornady universal die for 223, and it works better, easier to adjust for seating depth as well.

While I have a few premium micrometer seater, I just bought a Frankford Arsenal micrometer seater. Works great. My other micrometer seaters are caliber specific. The Frankford has mandrels for a variety of cartridges..

Check out Forster Ultimate Seater Die. It has the sliding chamber you speak of.
The Redding die is an improved Forster. I have both and absolutely the Redding is better. The Forster stem is too thin walled and you’ll get a lot of OAL variation when it flares and starts sticking the bore and galling it.

100% get the Redding.

I like RCBS' competition seater dies & I eventually got one for most of my rifle cartridges. The die bodies are universal & can be adapted to most any caliber by changing the seating stem & bullet guide which can be purchased separately. With the proper shell holder, my same die can seat .222, .223 & .22-250. The same is true of my seater for .270 Win & 6.8 SPC. Note that on the earlier models the micrometer adjusted with clicks & these can not be converted to other calibers. New models turn smoothly & hold by friction. I like loading bullets from the top & my run-out has been very low, although I'm not a competitor.
