Looking for a first class PD outfitter for west texas

Need a good PD outfitter for a trip in late April or early may--traveling from South Louisiana--so closer is better – but I do not want to sacrifice quality for a few more miles in the motor home. Have self contained motor home and truck so lodging is not an issue.

Does that mean that a good outfitter is hard to find or does it mean they are all gone????

Hi h2o, The Texas panhandle was hit hard by the plague which killed off many pd towns. They should be making a come back soon. I would contact the local chamber of commerce in the areas you want to hunt.
I think this would be a good way to get current information. Good Luck

Also , when you talk to the guide and local game wardens, ask if the land owner have been poisioning pd. i have found an increase in poisoned towns and the shooting is for the birds cause that is all you see.

First off, why would you want to pay someone to take you prairie dog hunting? Do some research and you can do it for nothing. Make sure that there are dogs left in the area you want to go to. The plague limits them for awhile, but they come back hard. When the goonies threatened to list the pds on the endangered band wagon, many ranchers/farmers panicked and poisoned everything. A friend of mine that used to shoot hundreds every year in eastern NM, could not find a place to go after that scare. Before that, he was the most popular guy around as the ranchers loved seeing him driving his Lincoln To wn Car out to the towns to shoot. I don't know what it is like there anymore as I left the state, but I am sure there are some to be found again.

Check with Chambers of Commerce and Game Wardens and try to do it on your own instead of padding outfitters pockets for an animal that is a pest.
