Looking for 6br load data for silhouette

Dan Theodore (whom I never met and I believe is now deceased) used to post the most interesting material on the Steelchickens.com Highpower forum about Ramentum and his experiences with cartridges that many would consider way too underpowered to take rams. I believe he had settled on versions of the 6.5 x 45 as the cartridge that gave him the most optimum scores. I believe I read that he had speculated that the .204 Ruger case necked up to 6.5 might be the best compromise between effectiveness on rams and cumulative recoil. It sounds as the 7x204 may address the “ringing rams” issue better, provided correct bullet construction/reaction on target.

In any event Dan’s posts on Steelchickens are interesting reads.
Dan was a good friend of my Coach and a regular at matches for a long time. He passed less than a year after we met. At the time of his passing he was in mid-build with a bunch of 6,6.5,7mm's based on 204 cases.

7-204 is really close to a 7BR with lighter bullets. If you hit em just right with 130's you can get reliable take-downs on the rams. Just not me. ;)

IMO the best things going for silhouette are either 6.5BR and 6.5-250 or 7mm-08/260rem. If your range has a habit of having rams supported by wind from the back, you'll want the extra snot. If your range has somewhat softly set animals, go for the lighter ones. What ever you do, I suggest steering clear of .30 cal. It kicks too hard and BC's most suck for the bullet weights at hand. The one exception is 155 scenars at 2950 from a .308 so a spectacular job. They fly like a .300wm.

With regards to the original question... When are we going to have a sidebar section on the front page for the 6.5x55? It's nearly 130 years in the making :)

You guys may think this is ridiculous...

Modern silhouette pistol - in development:

AR-15 side charge pistol. Chambered in 6mm AR. 105 Berger VLDT @ 2350 from a 10.5” Brux custom barrel with H4895.

Extremly accurate.

Photo has me knocking down Rams at 500 meters (as a test) with no problems. Now these were all top half hits, but no hesitation to fall at all.

Pistol is legal IHMSA length, but a few oz over weight.

Have no clue how I will physically shoot it in actual silhouette competition. Still working on it.

I'm currently working with a manufacturer to get pistol stocks made for a number of bolt action models including big & little mausers for a new sport some friends and I came up with. We decided that we wanted to try something that would be like a cross between handgun silhouette and PRS and that would really max out the requirement for shooter/equipment/ammo to all be perfect. I've branded it LiTLR (lit'ler) for Lilliputian Tactical Long Range. It's simple rules, "pistols" and SBR's equipped with a bipod, 10.5" barrel max, 1600fps max, 250gn max, 100-500m targets of ~3MOA size. Basically it's meant to get all those guys with .300BO AR pistols somewhere to play with them that builds some skills where they won't be outclassed ballistically right out of the gate.

My little AR silhouette pistol hammers 10” round targets at 400 and 500 meters. My only other AR pistol competition is a guy with a 6.8 SPC. He does suprisingly well at those distances.

Which pistol actions will you use in those pistol stocks?

I wish there was a higher mag EER pistol scope that had a modern mil reticle and was FFP! Or at least target turrets on that Burris 3-12.

Don't really want to do the 3-4" eye relief of a rifle scope on a pistol.

Shot HP Sil. back when the 7-08 was a 7-308 wildcat. One range had a bank of very heavy rams. When you were on that bank, the plan was to shoot the rump to move the rear foot off the support, causing the ram to do a slow fall. Had one a little nose down, hit it but it just pivoted a little and ended up balanced on the from leg. This with a 7-308 pushing a Hornady 162BTHP loaded with 40.0 of 4350.
