looking for 6.5x47 dies...

hey guys, my gun will be done in another month, and midway just bumped back the backorder date on my set of forester dies(one full length sizer, and one competition seater die) till almost June.

They had them for $90 for the set, and i can't seem to find the set in stock anywhere.
Forester has them on their site for $130 for the same set, but i don't know if they are backordered. I tried to call them, but they were closed tonight. If I can't find them anywhere else, I may just get them from them.

All that to say/ask, do you guys know where those can be found in stock? I have found the comp. seater die in stock, but still no full length sizing die. i did find the redding set in stock, but they are $200. is that worth it?

thanks guys

ok, i've called around a lot this morning, and forster does not have anything in stock. I have found the forster competition seating die in stock, and a redding type s full length bushing size die in stock as well.

i was thinking i would order both separately, and would end up around $150 for the set.

now my quesitons. i've never mixed and matched die sets. I can't imagine that there would be a problem, but wanted to check here first. would there be a problem?

second, as far as ordering the bushings for the redding die. do i need to wait till i can fire a round through my gun, and then measure the neck and order bushings based on that measurement? then ordering a bushing slightly less then the fired dimensions?

thanks guys, i hope these questions are not too far beneath you :)

Hi, factory Lapua round measures 289,5" at neck (those are of course no neck turn cases) - from my batch of factory ammo I purchased. So I have redding 288, 287 and 286 bushings. It is nice to have more bushings instead of only one, so you are able to play with neck tension - you will see what your rifle likes. I think you cant go wrong with those 3 sizes as long you use non neck turned brass and SAMI chamber.

thanks for the bushing info! i appreciate it.

well i bit the bullet and went ahead and ordered the 6.5x47 redding type s, die set. found it in stock at sinclairs, so i should have it here in time.

thanks again

I started with the type-s for mine but never could get consistently low runout. Went threw several bushings, even some carbide. I finally got a Forster FL non-bushing die and it made a huge difference in runout and a noticeable difference on 600yd targets. I will be using non bushing dies whenever possible from now on.

I'm probably in the A-typical category. I use the Redding FL Type S die set and what is abnormal is I settled on the .289" bushing. I tried .287" and .288" but got the best accuracy, ES and SD with the .289" Go figure! My runout NEVER goes more than .004" and that's maybe 1 in 30 with about 3 in 30 .003". The rest are .002" and under.

Seating 130 VLD's in 6.5x47 L.
