Looking at two scopes. Athlon /Nikon

Have it narrowed down to Athlon Midas btr gen 2 4.5x27x50 or Nikon black x1000 6x24x50 . Just wondering if anybody has owned either and if so what there take is on them?

I have a first gen Midas 4.5-27x50 on a rimfire. I returned the first one because the crosshairs were canted to the left. They sent me two more and the one I kept has nice glass, etc. Elevation and windage turrets are mushy and the parallax is almost impossible to turn. Besides that, it works ok, I know they are increasing in popularity.....
I also have a Nikon 4-12, and Nikon makes really nice glass .

Neither one approaches the quality and performance of NF, but they are cheap scopes.

OK, I have no experience with this particular scope. That said; the Monarch 7 with advanced BDC seems to be a decent scope. The glass is clear to the edge even at max 16 power. Glass was good enough for easy 600 yard shots; seeing impacts on steel. I could see targets to 1000, but not 100 percent crisp. I would hunt with the Monarch 7 with good light, I feel that at dusk the glass may not be good enough for detail past 400.

The x1000 at our local SW had by far the worst turrets I've experienced, didn't line up, etc.

The earlier Athlons weren't too great either on their less expensive scopes but the recent shipments have been pretty good.

The Athlon Midas TAC's are wonderful! Spend the extra money because it's like getting a $1000 scope for almost half the price!

A close friend has one. It works great and I want one! I have the Ares 2.5-15x50, I like it better than my 3-12x44 LRHS.
Yesterday another guy I know that sells optics and gun related stuff showed up at our shoot with a brand of scope I won't mention. It's not really a scope we see around here anyway but this model is only a couple hundred less, all I can say is that thing was a total POS! There's no comparison between it and the Ares and actually I'd much rather have one of the Talos BTR's than that thing at half the price. I mentioned all this just to point out that you chose one of the best values around in a rifle scope and could have done far worse.

I shoot FTR with the Nikon Black. you cant beat it for the money...
