I'm shopping around for a new scope to go on a dedicated long range gun for shooting out past 1 mile. The hold up is that I want something with at least 100 MOA of adjustment and I'd like to avoid anything super "tactical". I hate paying for features I don't need like illuminated or over complicated reticles or elaborate turret designs. The problem is that I do need a scope strong enough to hold up to some fairly significant recoil and a lot of turret twisting and I'd like to stay away from 1/8th MOA clicks. It would take forever to dial in the 55.4 MOA it takes me to get to 2000 yards!
My normal go to scopes are either Leupolds (VX-3 or Mk 4) or Sightron SIIIs. I have an NXS 5.5-22x56 that I'm not in love with and I've played with an ATACR for a while. I don't care for the optics on either of the NF scopes. They both had a bit of a blue tint to the image. I haven't played with any of the Gen II Razors but everyone seems to like them.
I would just go with another Sightron but I'm concerned with their durability. I had my 8-32x56 LRMOA mounted on a 338 Edge for about 15 shots before the reticle started rotating on me. Sightron fixed it at no charge in less than 2 weeks and it's been retired to the smaller calibers ever since. I may have just had a bad scope but I've always been a little concerned about how tough they are.
I'm considering just going with another Leupold because I've never had an issue with any of them, I'm just hoping to get some better glass. I considered a March scope but they don't have nearly the elevation travel that I'm looking for. I suppose that the solution to that is to use one of the elevation adjustable bases. I just haven't seen enough of those in use to get a good opinion of how well they hold up.
