long range groundhog

You've already got the tool for 500 yards with the lighter bullets. For farther out I'd start looking at higher BC bullets and bigger cartridges with an emphasis on which combo provides the least wind drift.

I know from past experience that a 95gr 6mm bullet can be cranked out to 3400 fps in a long barreled 6x47l with R-17 powder. 6-284 might be a good one too if you can reach 3500 fps with the same bullet.

Past these you are taking a major hit in the recoil department when compared for not much less wind drift, if that.

Even my 6.5 Saum with 140 hybrids going 3175 fps only does a 1/4 moa better in the wind, 7 mph coming from 8 oclock, than the 95gr 6mm going 3500 fps at 800Y.

I wonder how his barrel is doing???

I know it's bad of me but the thought came to my mind that maybe part of the reason he stopped posting was that bullets started blowing up from the throat getting torched.

That happened to me with my 20x47 project about 300 rounds in.

No, not the case at all. He took a nice deer this fall with it, and has been doing ...gasp...car stuff. Swedish cars no less!? Turbo, vroom vroom stuff.
So far the Redline lives. We plan to hunt in June together if the weather and grass cooperate
