I use mostly an eclectic array From the Tac 20, 22-250, 6mmbr & My fav the 243Win..Honorable mention goes to my Vintage Sako 270 win sporter..For some reason that rifle shoots smaller groups w the 110 varmint bullet...But loads of fun walking around...Mike in Ct who hunts in Pa.

Like em all but the 243, 308 and 17HMR. The others rotate into my favorite list. Last it was 22PPC. Before that my Swift. Next the 17FB

Oh, and a 357 Herrett Contender puts the smush to them...

Oh, bobbyboy...."Did you ever shoot the 2506 with a 100 gr smk in a 1-10 t it’s sweet" ??? ... ah No [never owned one] but a couple of my old long ago GH hunting buddies & I came to an understanding about that 25 caliber number...I used to hear holy hell from one grump I could easily outshoot w my 257 Roberts...I'd tell him that overbored wonder of his was too heavy for light work & too light for heavy work...Seriously tho, that combo rocks...I still have a few old Hornady 100gr spire points...Mike in Ct

Heck, just about every cartridge/rifle combination has been used hunting groundhogs in OH, WV and PA.

My first centerfire rifle was a Rem 700 VS in .25-06 purchased in 1977, I still have it. I miss those days and the friends I hunted with back then.

what are your thoughts for a 6 mm case and bullets for 600 to say 1000 yard hog hunting.these 6 mms do well for the 1000 yard shoots.

I'll chime in...The trouble is you want to do both sports..LR hunting & LR targets. Taller order. The cases that give you the most important "Whomp Factor" Are all barrel burners.[Note: two types & weights of bullets, say 87 to 105, sometimes 115Gr.] ..I tried to compete w a standard 243Win. use any # you want..800 to 1100 shots. Minimum bullet weight 100 grains. [ I used the 87gr V-max bullet on Varmints, Carefully Sorted] Barrel life & keeping it in tune..I think those all blow up your accuracy ability..Struggling to keep them in tune..Chasing the lands..Whatever you call it, that is problematic..Do yourself a favor read about that gun " Matt's screaming yellow 243Win AI" ...I don't know much about AI type cartridges..I only own one...more later, mike in ct...link is here...scroll down that page... http://www.accurateshooter.com/cartridge-guides/243win/

17HMR, 223 then 6.5x47Lapua. with out rolling hills most shots are under 600yds. There are some places in a few counties to go pretty far. I never had to get the 300NM out, yet.

Well stated. There is a difference between LR varmint hunting and LR targets in regards to bullets used. I would never want to use heavy target bullets on some of the farms I hunt where there is live stock and houses. Light weight frangible bullets are best for the application. I've seen a few friends pay for live stock due to mishaps.

I’ve been shooting this quarter bore for over 25 years ,rem 700 Schneider match barrel Leupold vx-6 7-42 scope it’s wicked .im gonna try out the 90 gr SBK bullets with the same load as the 100 gr smk should be interesting lol.sierra tech said start at 52and workup to 57 gr

Funny, I bought a 243 AI / used after reading this - "Matt's screaming 243. " Took it out 5 (?) years ago on a PD shoot and shot PD at 100 yds. Literally not anything remained. Really a fine shooting rifle. 87g V max. 8 twist. obviously good out further-
