Long action Remington f class build

I have a trued Remington 700 long action. Built as a hunting rifle in .284, and been considering getting another barrel and using it for f class. I have a mcmillian f class stock on order, I just didn't know if anyone was using long action Remington's in f class. I'm not a pro, I'm just shooting on the side and don't make enough dough to afford a custom action right this minute. Have everything ready just need a barrel and stock so planned on going this route.

I've been seeing a lot of 284s and 6.5-284s built in short action Remington but I did not know why they aren't using them in long actions? Am I missing something?

Gonna run a hv Bart. 30 inch just curious why you don't see very many long action Remington's or maybe I'm not looking in the right place lol

I am have a similar build at the Smiths now, rem l/a, krieger barrel jewel trigger and a mcmillian stock. Like you i cant afford to go w a custom action. I look at this way, while im sure I wont be very competitive at first I will learn a LOT, and I'll at least be on the line and not standiing in the background watching. Good luck

My first across the course rifle and a rifle I used for prone long range and for early F-Class was built on a Rem. long action. Worked just fine and no complaints! Set it up right and it will give you just fine service.

I use a long action Rem 700 for my F Open rifle in 6.5X47 Lapua. But I machined a piece of steel to fit in the bottom and tig welded it in place to stiffen it up. I can seat the bullets out as far as I want.

A lot of guys don't realize that by the time they buy a Remington donor for around 450 bucks they will have more in it than a stiller by the time its fixed up. 250 to blueprint, 40 for a lug, 80 if the handle needs retimed, 85 if the firing pin hole needs bushed for the 6.5x47 or br, and 100 bucks for a rail and have it bedded to the receiver. That's 555 bucks in fixing a factory action. Your at 1000 bucks now. I sell stillers for 910 bucks shipped w a 20 moa rail. Another positive to the custom action is it will retain its value a lot better if you ever go to sell it. Just throwing that out there.

Yea, I've wanted to go out on a custom action, but I already have a trued action in the Remington 700, and I have a pinned holland lug. Good friend chambers up the barrels, and I'm good to go for $1000 on this build. I would love to get a Barnard or a bat but for right now I'm gonna run this for a while, and then maybe in a few years I'll have enough saved for the exact rifle I want.

I use a Rem LA on my FTR gun. It is working just fine. I placed second at Texas state long range match and second at lapua regionals with high master scores with it.

If you buy a remington 700 used after deer and before xmas you can find them for under 450. Then sell the bolt trigger stock barrel scope and bottom metal and they are free
