long action 6MMAI ??

I have an old A prefix 700 BDL 25-06 on its third barrel,,with the new bullets I been thinking about a 280AI or a 6mmAI for the next barrel,,

with a 26 inch 7 or 7.5 twist barrel with enough freebore to seat the VLD out long with the base above the donut area how much velocity could a person expect from the 105 and 115 Berger VLD`s

I have a 6mm Rem 8 twist getting 3050 with 117gr DTACs. Don't know how much more you could get with an AI

I was getting around 3350 FPS out of an 8.5 twist 26" barrel with a stout load of RL25 and the 105 A-max. This was seated to magazine length too (2.950"). Accuracy was OK at about 0.6" at 100 yards.

I have always wanted to try it out of a long action to take full advantage of the case capacity. I really like the 6mmAI.

I also have a 25-06 no prefix that's going to be made into a 6 Ackley 8 twist with .10 free bore and I have been stocking up on 105 A-MAX ' s! ! Can't wait !!!

Ever considered going the 6-06 route instead? It would be an easy plug and play based on your current set up....no fire forming, feeding issues, hard to find brass, etc. I converted my 25-06 to a 6-06 and I'm pizzed I didn't do it sooner. 25-06 brass and one pass through a 6-06 FL die is all it takes. Doesn't get much simpler. 105 VLD's from an 8 twist, 26 in barrel at 3350 is pretty spectacular.

I just re-barreled a 6 AI it's the third Ive had. Was advised by my smith to go 7 1/2 twist instead of 8 glad I did, Lilja 3 groove, does a little better I believe with 115's and I love the 3 groove barrel. I don't think you'd be disappoint with the little 6, it's a fun caliber. Good shooting

One outstanding Round.. Thing to remember small hole, Big Flame up = short barrel life . 1700 to 2400 ??

I have a long action Rem 700 that I am getting rebarreled. I have a set of .257 Roberts AI dies, and if I run a .30/06 case in to the bottom of the shoulder I end up with a long 6mm Rem AI. I am going to get my 'smith to run his reamer in to headspace off my case, so I will have a 6mm Rem AI plus an extra 3mm in length. My case holds 1.4 grains less water than a fired 6mm-284 unfireformed, it might be an option for you?
