Lock - ease help

Lock-Ease is not designed for preventing cold bore poi shift. A while back a champion benchrester told me that it is used as an application after complete bore cleaning and polishing with either JB or Iosso. As previously suggested here, it can be used as a barrel storage additive to protect metal and also suggested here to ease the first round down a completely clean bore. The picture below indicates a test at 600yd I ran with this type of cleaning regimen. The reason the first shot was low was to drive out residuals down the bore. And as you see, the next 3 shots are an indicator that it should only require the first round to settle barrel. Keep im mind, my poa was intentionally moved off absolute zero. I set it back to zero and it was pedal to the metal. I don't fully grasp the chemistry of it, I just know it works for me.

I see, so it helps to sesson/foul the bore so only one shot is required to start shooting at the same poi.

I think I was using way too much.

What are you guys using to apply it with? Pointed or looped jag? One straight pass, or are you moving the rod back and forth inside the bore?

Me personally, I use a pointed jag, one caliber smaller(if possible), not heavily saturated and one pass. No follow up.

I was under the impression the Lock-Ease was for 1st shot lubrication on a clean bore. Just like an engine without oil the 2 metals will get sticky & leave deposits behind that pick up more soft material as use continues. The 1st shot POI thing is maybe another benefit if it happens.

I've been fiddling with Lock Ease after cleaning. Nasty old rough factory barrels dont seem to benefit much, if any, from using it. Custom barrels, or the 35s I've firelapped seem to clean even easier than before with continued use. Dont expect much the 1st time, but after a few cycles it sure seems easier to get clean.

As I understand internal ballistics, any lubrication in the bore (or on the bullet) will reduce friction which decreases pressure and lowers velocity. However minutely. It's why coated bullets generally need a little more fuel in the boiler. Lower velocity is going to result in a POI change - especially as distance increases. That's why we chase low ES and SD numbers. How gun harmonics are affected in this scenario is way over my head.

I've found Lock-Ease in the bore results in less change in first shot POI versus more traditional bore lubes. That's the only reason I use the stuff.
