local Shoot Cancelled, Everything Cancelled

dixieppc

In search of one small hole...
Well, our 600/1000 yard match is cancelled for today. Here's a side shot of our little private 1250 yard range. It's along the back along the woods. Yes, there is a fence between the cattle and range.

Looks like November to April here in CNY....

Hope ya'll get a melt soon.

Not sure about Central NY but from what I'm seeing on the news, Eastern NY is going to get hit 10 times worse than I did here. Anyway, you stay safe and warm my friend....

Best Regards,
Thomas

That's just a good tracking snow,

they will come in on the run!!!!!!!!

We have the same thing going on down here in northern Delaware. 12 to 20 inches depending on how it drifted. Took me 4 1/2 hours to clear the drive with my snow blower. It's still coming down. I'm going to have to do it all over again, tomorrow. The good news is the wind. It kept the snow from collecting on the trees that fall on the power lines, so we still have power. It sure is pretty out there!

Wife's car is in there somewhere! Local news said we got 28". High winds not to stop until tomorrow sometime. Had a total shoulder replacement on 12/18/15 so I get a pass on clearing this one. My Son will be home from Fox hunting tomorrow so he can tear into it.image.jpeg

One of my Grand Daughters just showed me this on her Facebook page. Got a good laugh out of it. Thought I would share it here along with its caption:

May the Snow Fairy visit all my friends that get too much snow this winter.....

Now THAT is funny.

Besides this photo, all the other ones look like a normal 4-5 winter months here in CNY. I really do forget how the rest of the world lives. This year is beyond abnormal...no snow till January, and only about 4 inches on the ground now. Anywhere from 0-20 degrees most days lately.

however, we have had usual years where the snow mound on the end of our street from plowing has not melted until the second week of June! It is usually 30 feet tall. I have used a yardstick several times to measure one snowfall. So guys, bear with it...at least yours will melt in a week or so.

And wasn't it a guy from VA that posted he saw his first woodchuck on jan 1? See, that is what ya get! ;)

If you look at the last picture in my original message, you see a shed. It is half underground and a groundhog lives in there. I see him year round out eating grass in the yard as long as its not snow covered or down in the 20's. Last time I saw him was middle of December.

Regards.....

I'm in Virginia. The match is really an informal get-to-gather a few of my friends and I do a couple of times a month on the farm. We got tired of driving hours to benchrest anything over 200 yards so we put a few benches together under an old enclosed birthing shed looking out over three non grazing fields for a total of 1250 yards. You can shoot level at 600 yards but 1000 yards is in a dip. Some of the guys that are 1000 yard shooters want to build a tall target stand at 1000 but that would have to be around 8-10 feet high to see the target. Seems to me the slightest wind would make that unstable. They can shoot level at 965 and 1035. But I got my 600, so I'm happy.

That does it...I am moving to VA! Dixie, you got a spare room? I am neat, clean, don't eat much and have a couple rifles that will do the 1200...:)

Best to you all,

Snert

I'm a retired builder. Let's find a couple more guys, go down there and build a bunk house.:)
I can build a target stand that'll stand up to a hurricane!

Tell the snow gods to send that snow BACK to Minnesota where it belongs....I MISS IT. We haven't had hardly anything this year.
