Loads needed for 6-6.5 x 47

Hey Guys, I just got my "new build" rifle in 6-6.5 x 47 Lapua. It is fitted with a 30" 1-7.5 Broughton. I want to use either FIRST CHOICE: 115 "naked" DTACS or SECOND CHOICE: Berger 105 Hybrids. I was wondering if any of y'all has some good loads for either of these bullets. I have 8 pounds of H4350>>>so that would be my powder of choice. Also, I know seating depths vary from rifle to rifle>>>however, a good "starting point" for each of these bullets would be greatly appreciated... I also watched the videos of Brian Litz talking about HYBRID SEATING DEPTH, however, I also know that these "starting areas" are often not the most productive.. Having said that the 115 DTACS are what I really want to use... Any help would be greatly appreciated...

...Thanks Guys..................

I would suggest a starting point of 37g RL17 and seated 10thou jump.

I run 39.1g RL17 and clock 3030fps... But this might be too rich for your chambering. As always, work up to max. loads. If you use same weights of H4350 you should be safe, though not quite as fast.

im getting about 3050 with this load, i worked it up back in the spring and i cant remember what the max was but i know im not there. there should be atleast a couple grains to play with this where i found my node i wanted to go with. es's were running about 12 fps

im using -105 hybrids jumped 5thou -br4 primers -lapua brass- 39,4gns rel 17 over the chrono im getting 3200fps avg single figure ES .im using forster dies full length size every loading.shot this load last week end in a 1000yd br match and shot a small group of 5.580" my agg for the match was 8.45".i also shoot the same in f class here in the uk .this shoots very well at all ranges.

WOW!! Thanks Gary... I have noticed from as much "research" as I can do, RL-17 seems to be a great powder for this cartridge.. I thank you for your help... I appreciate it and everyones..

H4350 is a great powder and works well in the 6/47 Lap but grain for grain you will get a little more speed from RL1 7.

I'm on my third 6/47 and have ended up using RL17 on them all and for bullets, I prefer the 115 DTACS you are considering.

Quoting current figures from a 29.25" eight twist barrel, I get 2900 fps from 37.2g of RL17 and as H4350 is slower, I would expect to get about 2840 fps from it, which is comparable with Quickloads calculations.

Again, referring to QL's calculation... to obtain 3050fps using H4350, you would need to use somewhere in excess of 40g and will generate high pressures.

If you do a "search" on the forum you should find there was a fair bit published about 3-4 years ago.

I agree with yellow11. you could try N560, it should give you about 100ft/sec faster than RL17 with about the same if not lower pressure for the same node.

Thanks Guys!! I certainly appreciate everyone's help... I believe I now have enough to get myself started... Thanks again...

I'm at 2890 with 36.0 grains of h-4350 and 115 Bergers. Plenty of room to go but it is an absolute 1 holer with this load. So I'm keeping it there.

I appreciate your help Frank... My "goal" is to get to at least 2985 up to 3025 with the 115's... I have a 6mmBr that I shoot 105 Hybrids with (.547BC) that drives them to 2915f.p.s. If I can't get close to or just over 3000f.p.s. I will be no further ahead than what my 6mmBr offers.. However, I can start at your load and go up from there. My "thoughts" are that if the 6.5 x 47 LOVES H4350 and you neck it down, shoot 115's instead of 105's, H4831 might just be the ticket I am looking for. I am going to try that and see. If that don't work, maybe IMR 7828SSC. If all else fails, I will go back to H4350 and see from there. Thanks again for your input! I appreciate everyone's input..

I am using the berger 108 BT. I am using 39.0 grains of H4350 at 3060 fps. I will admit I need to a little more work with seating depth and neck tension. I shoot steel with it all the time out to 1065 yards and is a blast to shoot...BUT I shot it in one IBS 1000 yard comp....five shot 8" group and ten shot ..11 inches..all vertical. My guess is that I can easily cut 30 -40% off of those totals. I just never got around to tuning the load, as this is my plinking gun and have way to many BR guns to tune..

I don't think you can go wrong with either RL17 or H4350. I simply had 24 pounds of H4350 for my 300 wsm HG on hand...never tried RL17.

Good Luck

Tod

Thanks Tod>>>>very useful, as after giving the 115DTACS a full chance>>if they don't do what I need, the 108 Bergers is the next stop!!
