loads for 85-90 gr bullets in 6XC

So far have shot only 107 MK's out of my 8 twist 26" barrel. Best load is 39 gr H-4350, Norma brass, Wolf LRM primers at .015 jump. Looking to load some Barnes 85gr TSX for hunting. Anybody got any suggestions for loads or comments with regard to using the all copper bullets?

JR -

Howdy !

I once called Barnes to ask their recommended starting point for shooting Barnes 6mm XXX bullets.
The rep told me to start out .1" off the lands..... a full tenth !

This took me aback, as I was/am used to running about .002" off the lands w/ conventional jacketed bullets ( seems to have worked, to me ).

Ran a goodly-part of the full spectrum of possible seating depths, but " no joy ". Could not get the Barnes to group for me ( my loads, my gun ).

Have not tried the newer "tipped" Barnes bullets, but it's a lot of $$$ to do so; esp if they end up not shooting well.

I am not slaved to achieving a certain vel with my 6mm wildcat' loads ( for varmint or paper shoots ).
My wildcat has about 2gr capacity < .243 Win. My best groups with all 6mm bullet weights of
85 - 107gr all came when shooting RL-22. Dependent of bullet weight being used, the charge varied
only a couple tenths overall, to cover the 20gr bulet weight span. Seemed to be some sort of " node ",
for my gun/loads.

RL-22 may very well produce too low a vel, for your use ?

I also had great success w/ I7828 / I7828SSC, but again; the vel is S-L-O-W.

Both poders gave super high load densities.

With regards,

I have two 6xc's one in a 9 twist, and one with a 10 twist. Both are 26". I have no experience with the all copper bullets.

Both of those rifles do just fine with R-17, N550, and H4350 with conventional bullets in the 70-90gr weight range. :)WD
